After sharing plans with patrons to relocate from one location off El Camino Real in Atascadero to another, A-Town Diner changed course by announcing on Facebook that it will be staying put for the next year.

“The Denny’s building is too expensive and needs too many repairs for us to move into,” the owners of A-Town Diner wrote on Facebook.

The diner announced plans to relocate to the former Denny’s building on El Camino Real in mid-November.

The diner now plans to stay in its current location at 7305 El Camino Real in Atascadero for the next year, the Facebook post said. The owner of the building will be leasing the property to a different business, but the new business does not need the building until a year from now.

This is one of many starts and stops for the business.

In September, longtime owner Jeanie Dagnall said she was closing the diner permanently after rising costs made it difficult to continue operations. A few days later, longtime friends of the Dagnall family, Rob and Mimi Davis, stepped in to save the beleaguered diner.

It is unclear if, when or where the Davis’ plan to move A-Town Diner in the next year, but the yearlong lease bought them some time to decide.

A-Town Diner is at 7305 El Camino Real in Atascadero.

The diner is open Monday to Friday, 5:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.
