New tiki bar is opening in SLO County — with mai tais, mojitos and Polynesian finger food
A new San Luis Obispo County tiki bar aims to transport customers to a tropical paradise.
Cane Tiki Room is the fourth local establishment launched by the owners of Paso Robles restaurants Fish Gaucho and Pappy McGregor’s and cocktail bar Eleven Twenty Two.
Cane Tiki Room will open this summer at 1240 Park St. in Paso Robles, according to general manager and bar director Jeff Kennedy, a Cal Poly alumnus with an engineering degree.
“Tiki is an invitation to escape,” Kennedy said, quoting the book “Smuggler’s Cove: Exotic Cocktails, Rum, and the Cult of Tiki” by Martin Cate.
Between Cane Tiki Room’s drinks, tropical tiki and lively music, Kennedy said guests will feel “transported to an oasis.”
According to Kennedy, Cane Tiki Room’s specialty will be rum-based cocktails. The bar will blend tiki and craft cocktails for a menu featuring mai tais, mojitos and more.
Punch bowls will also available.
“We’re trying to get out of that COVID(-19) era so we can have people sitting together at a table, maybe even drinking out of the same bowl, which will be really fun,” Kennedy said.
In addition to drinks, Cane Tiki Room will serve Polynesian fusion small bites such as Spam musubi and egg rolls.
Cane Tiki Room will only have indoor seating, Kennedy said, in order to control the ambiance. The bar will block out most natural lighting and artificial lights will illuminate the bar.
“We’re bringing excitement and an escape to the Central Coast,” Kennedy said. “It’ll be a paradise in Paso.”
