This new SLO County ice cream shop serves up towering shakes and fancy sundaes
A new Morro Bay ice cream shop is serving up old-fashioned soda fountain drinks, giant milkshakes and sundaes and other unique ice cream creations in the heart of downtown.
Featuring treat options such as “over the top” ice cream sandwiches and handcrafted sodas, Bumble B Soda Company is the brainchild of Marisa and Ryan Bello.
The shop, which opened in June, is located at 859 Main St., next to Top Dog Coffee Bar.
“I really think the community is so excited that we finally opened,” Marisa Bello said. “It had been a long time coming. People have been very supportive.”
Besides unique dessert offerings, including cookie monster and s’mores milkshakes, they also offer classic ice cream flowers in flavors such as chocolate, vanilla and strawberry.
Look out for seasonal specials as well, like their sparkling caramel apple cider float, which features vanilla ice cream and sparkling cider topped with whipped cream, an edible fall leaf and caramel apple candy.
Bello said she and her husband are lifelong Central Coast residents who met in junior high. They were planning to open their shop before the coronavirus pandemic hit in March. But the virus pushed the schedule back to the summer. It’s their first business, Bello said.
The shop is open six days a week for takeout with outdoor dining. It has eight seats and four tables outside right now, Bello said, with none inside.
“Top Dog had been operating relentlessly seven days per week,” Bello said. “They encouraged us to give it a shot and see what we can do.”
Located off the Embarcadero, they’re based in an area of Morro Bay that’s popular with locals.
“We have not done any announcements yet or advertising, but we’ve been busy and the community has been so wonderful,” Bello said. “We’ve posted on Instagram, and we’ve had people hear about it and come from San Luis Obispo and Atascadero and Paso Robles.
