SLO Italian restaurant announces sudden closure. ‘We have set our sails on retirement’

Popular Italian restaurant Upper Crust Trattoria will close its doors for good on Saturday.

The owners announced the sudden closure of the San Luis Obispo eatery on Facebook on Thursday.

“Thank you for 31 years of serving this wonderful community,” owners Ron and Terez Tyni wrote in a post. “Upper Crust has had a very successful life, but it is time to retire, and enjoy all the beautiful experiences that lie ahead.”

“So with lasting memories, many friends, and loyal employees, we have set our sails on to retirement,” they added. “We thank you for your wonderful patronage!”

Upper Crust Trattoria opened in the late 1980s as an upscale pizza and salad restaurant, but over time grew to encompass a full Italian and Mediterranean menu. It’s been at its current location in the Laguna Village Center since about 1999, according to previous Tribune reports.

The news of its closure was met with sadness by its devoted customers and former employees, many of whom began sharing photos and stories of the restaurant over the years.

“So much love for this restaurant and its people,” one person commented on the post. “Upper Crust has been a home for me for almost as long as i can remember. It will be dearly missed, but you’ve certainly earned a very restful retirement!”

“I’m so very sad for this neighborhood favorite and all of the wonderful employees to no longer be there!” another wrote.

On Friday, the Upper Crust Trattoria website featured just a photo saying “Sorry, we’re closed!”
