New SLO gastropub will serve ‘high-end bar food’ in old Forden’s spot. Here’s when it opens
Downtown San Luis Obispo’s newest restaurant is a family-owned gastropub with three other locations in Southern California.
Finney’s Crafthouse & Kitchen plans to open Jan. 22 at 857 Monterey St. in the former Forden’s location, next to Giuseppe’s Cucina Rustica.
The restaurant chain already has locations in Westlake Village, Santa Barbara and Ventura, business co-owner Greg Finefrock said, and with new locations also coming to Burbank and Porter Ranch in the San Fernando Valley.
Finefrock said his family chose San Luis Obispo as a spot for a new Finney’s because his brother, Brad Finefrock, went to college there.
“Coming up here and visiting, we love the coastal community of Central California,” Greg Finefrock said. “It works well for the concept, food and type of service.”
Finney’s will seat 150 people on the ground floor, while the upstairs will be used for office space.
SLO restaurant menu includes burgers, pizza
The restaurant’s 50-item food menu includes made-from-scratch burgers, flatbread pizzas, crispy tacos, sandwiches, salads and sweets.
“It’s a globally inspired menu,” Finefrock said. “A gastropub is basically high-end bar food.”
Finney’s will offer 30 craft draft beers, many of them produced on the Central Coast.
In addition, the restaurant will have a full cocktail list, with options including the popular Meggerz Mule and Raspberry Smash, Finefrock said.
The restaurant will be open for lunch and dinner seven days per week, and for brunch during football season, closing at midnight.
“We don’t typically attract a big college crowd because our price points are a bit higher,” Finefrock said. “But people will come in for a drink or two.”
Finefrock said the business has hired for positions at the incoming restaurant.
