Festival Mozaic music director to lead Mexico City orchestra
Festival Mozaic music director Scott Yoo has been picked to lead the Mexico City Philharmonic Orchestra as artistic director.
Yoo, 44, grabbed the baton from José Areán, who has led the orchestra since 2013. But the Japanese-born violinist and conductor doesn’t plan on giving up his local conducting duties.
Yoo took over as principal conductor of Festival Mozaic, formerly the San Luis Obispo Mozart Festival, in 2005. He’s also the artistic director for the Medellín Festicámara, a chamber music program for young, underprivileged musicians based in Colombia.
Yoo will perform with cellist Bion Tsang and pianist John Novacek on Sunday at Congregation Beth David in San Luis Obispo as part of Festival Mozaic’s WinterMezzo concert series.
