Military veterans and their stories will be the focus of Cuesta College’s Book of the Year program next spring.

Author, poet and U.S. Army veteran Kevin Powers, whose bestselling debut novel “The Yellow Birds” is based on his experiences serving in Iraq, will speak in San Luis Obispo in March 2015 as part of the Book of the Year program co-sponsored by the San Luis Obispo City-County Library.

In addition, Friends of the Cuesta College Library is planning a special fundraising event this fall to promote the program.

Christina Baker Kline will appear Nov. 4 at Cuesta’s San Luis Obispo campus to discuss her novel “Orphan Train,” which focuses on the friendship between a Native American foster teen and an elderly Irish immigrant.

Tickets for Kline’s talk are $20 for nonstudents and $10 for students, and go on sale Sept. 10 at http://www.cpactickets.cuesta.edu.
