Somewhere over the rainbow: SLO art museum is getting colorful new mural
A rainbow is spreading across the walls of the San Luis Obispo Museum of Art.
San Francisco artist Leah Rosenberg was spotted Monday working on a new site-specific mural, titled “SLO(W) RAINBOW,” that will cover all four walls of the museum in downtown San Luis Obispo.
The mural, which will take the place of Erin LeAnn Mitchell’s “Calafia was Here,” will be on view until February 2024, according to a news release from the museum.
“Two of the walls pay homage to SLOMA’s architecture and its natural setting, intending to ground people in the beauty of their surroundings,” the release said, and serve “as a reminder to pause and enjoy the small pleasures of everyday life.”
On another wall, the museum said, “Colors will break up into small pieces, reminiscent of confetti or seeds being planted, demonstrating how parts come together to make a whole and reflecting on the importance of collaboration and community.”
According to the museum, Rosenberg’s mural is “designed to be approached from any direction.”
