“Eyes: Mirror for the Sun” by Abe Hiro Toke will be on display as part of the Morro Bay Surfboard Art Festival, running Saturday through Dec. 2.

Colorful, quirky surfboards will decorate the walls of more than 40 shops and restaurants throughout San Luis Obispo County, starting this weekend.

More than 20 local artists have transformed ordinary surfboards into works of art for the Morro Bay Surfboard Art Festival, which starts Saturday and runs through Dec. 1. The festival’s launch coincides with Saturday’s Morro Bay Harbor Festival.

Now in its fourth year, the Morro Bay Surfboard Art Festival will feature surfboards stationed at 45 spots in the county. (A map of locations can be found at mbsurfboardartfest.com starting Saturday.) Art lovers can also see the surfboards Nov. 2 at a pop-up exhibition during the Downtown SLO Farmers’ Market in San Luis Obispo.

The decorated boards go on sale Dec. 2 at the Inn at Morro Bay. Proceeds help support Morro Bay in Bloom, a volunteer-run organization dedicated to beautifying Morro Bay.
