Hershey's Adds Savory New Item to Chocolate World Menus That Fans Say 'Scares Them'
Hershey's is trying out a new "abomination" of a menu item this summer, available at participating Hershey's Chocolate World locations: The Reese's Satay Hot Dog.
Foodie influncer Markie_devo helped spread the news of the sweet and savory new offering on Instagram this week, detailing a selection of new treats available to order that also include the cutest little s'mores cake, an Americana-themed cookie and cupcake, a pair of candy-infused new frozen drinks in a new post on the social media platform.
It's unclear which locations are participating, but the beloved chocolatiers have storefronts in New York City's Times Square, Las Vegas, Niagara Falls, and even in Singapore, as well as, of course, Hershey, Penn.
The flagship store also flaunted the summer menu on its own Instagram account earlier the same day, suggesting, "MDW never tasted so good!"
While that may be true of some of the new munchies, the hot dog certainly raised eyebrows-and, for some, curbed appetites.
Fans were largely disgusted by the meat and Reese's combo, with one questioning, "What the hell is that abomination of a 'hotdog' 😭😭?"
"The hot dog scares me," someone else commented, suggesting that the brand should have used Marge Simpson's "Dessert Dogs" recipe, which involves dogs made from deep-fried cookie dough with meringue buns, cherry ketchup and caramel mustard.
Some brave souls would have been up for the trial, though, if not for the presumed cost: "I'd honestly try the hotdog if I knew the price point wasn't going to be $15-20."
A full description of the hot dog's ingredients is not yet available, but Satay is a popular street food in Southeast Asia, which typically features a spicy peanut sauce on top of a dish of seasoned and/or grilled and/or skewered chicken, tofu or seafood. The hot dog at Hershey's Chocolate World is presumed to have a drizzling of Reese's sauce, and is also photographed with chives and other toppings.
Is this on your to-try list this summer?
