Think SLO has the best film festival? It needs your help to win the title

The San Luis Obispo International Film Festival is a beloved Central Coast tradition.

But is it the best film festival in the United States?

As part of its annual 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards, USA Today is canvasing the nation to determine its top film festival — and San Luis Obispo’s is in the running.

According to a news release, the International Film Festival was nominated for the second year in a row, placing it “among an elite group of festivals celebrated for excellence in film programming, community engagement and cultural impact.”

The local festival is held in downtown San Luis Obispo in the spring, showcasing a diverse assortment of films and themed events. This year’s film festival is slated for April 23 to 28.

Now, the winner will be determined “entirely by public vote,” the release said.
