Looking for family-friendly fun? Circus Vargas to return to SLO County

The circus is coming to San Luis Obispo.

On Wednesday, Circus Vargas pitched its big top tent at Madonna Meadows outside of the Madonna Inn.

The circus will kick off its family-friendly performances on Friday, and running through July 8.

This year, Circus Vargas will offer a new production called “Jubilé! An Epic World Celebration!” showcasing acrobats and flying trapeze artists, according to a news release.

“The show features opera trained Ringmaster, Johnathan Lee Iverson, who guides the audience through an experience of different cultures and nationalities, joining hand in hand, coming together through acrobatic and aerial artistry to entertain, laugh, live, love and celebrate as one,” the release said.

Iverson was the first Black American ringmaster of the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey, where he performed until 2017 when the show closed, according to the release.

Ringmaster Johnathan Lee Iverson will lead the cast of Circus Vargas in their San Luis Obispo performances from June 21, to July 8, 2024.
