Robert Redford’s home north of San Francisco sells above asking price. See it

Actor Robert Redford and his artist wife Sybille Szaggars Redford have sold their secluded home in Northern California, which sits on an unpaved cul-de-sac along the San Francisco Bay, for $4.65 million, according to the Compass real estate firm.

The remodeled split-level cottage on the Tiburon peninsula, encircled by redwood trees, listed for $4.15 million earlier this month.

The home spans 2,800 square feet with four bedrooms and three bathrooms. The couple bought the house in 2020 for $3.1 million, according to public property records, and set about personalizing the residence. They said in an emailed statement that cosmetic changes were made to the interior to brighten it up and enhance the coastal feel of the place.

The home is spotlighted by a large family room, front garden and patio and south and east decks offering 1,000 square feet of space.

Located at 2517 Mar East St., the property overlooks the San Francisco Bay with views of Angel Island, Raccoon Straits and the East Bay. The residence was built in 1968.

“It is a place where the sound of the seabirds and lapping waves replaces the hum of modern life; a place where the cool sea breeze caresses your soul, and where, in such moments, time seems to stand still,” the official property listing states.

That’s what attracted the Redfords to the seaside home.

“We were immediately struck by the warmth of the home with its light-filled rooms, along with the views of Keil Cove, the San Francisco Bay and Angel Island — the home has lovely and distinct views from each room,” the Redfords said at the time of the listing. “We also were attracted to the privacy that the home offers, as it sits on a quiet, unpaved cul-de-sac, which does not experience a lot of traffic.”

The Redfords decided to sell the property because they don’t spend as much time in Tiburon as they would like.

Robert Redford, 88, is a Hollywood legend whose illustrious career as an actor, director and producer spans over six decades. He’s known for his iconic performances in such popular films as “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid,” “The Sting” and “The Horse Whisperer.”

Listing agent Steven Mavromihalis of Compass said in an email that he was “delighted for both the sellers and buyer,” but declined further comment.

The buyer is a trust linked to Cricket Wardein, owner of Mighty Pilates, a fitness studio chain with locations in the Bay Area and Los Angeles.

Wardein told The Wall Street Journal that she was thrilled to find a house as big as the Mar East Street property with a view in the area.

“I’m pinching myself,” she said.
