FLORENCE, Ala. — Although only 20 anglers had heavier limits on day two, the climb to qualifying status here at Pickwick Lake proved to be too steep for Jared Lintner.
The fifth-year pro from Arroyo Grande weighed in late Friday and briefly was in position to make the first cut in the Bassmaster Elite competition.
Lintner was in 46th place with only five anglers yet to make their way to the scales. All of them finished above Lintner, dropping him to 51st place.
His 15-12 limit Friday gave Lintner, who was 71st after Thursday's first day, a tournament total of 27 pounds. He missed the 47-man cut by seven ounces. That left him out of the money for the second time this season.
Former Californian Gary Klein (Oroville) had Friday’s heaviest limit (20-4). Kevin Short of Arkansas leads the tournament for the second day in a row with a total weight of 38-13.
Halfway through the 2010 campaign, Lintner has earned $21,500 off his 10th place at Clear Lake and 31st at Smith Mountain. The entry fee alone for the Elite series of eight tournaments is $40,000. The tour resumes next week at Alabama’s Lake Guntersville.
