REDDING — Gene Gray, having finished in the money as a pro Friday at Shasta Lake, traveled nearly 500 miles to Paso Robles to compete in an American Bass Pacific Coast Region tournament on Saturday at Nacimiento Lake.
“The only method I found to catch fish in the FLW (National Guard) tournament was by using soft plastics. In practice jigs gave me bigger fish,” the Atascadero angler said.
He caught 20 fish Friday. His third limit of 8 pounds, 4 ounces gave him a three-day total of 24-15 and 42nd place in the standings. His finish was worth $4,869.
Only the top 47 pros in the field of 140 will cash checks.
