Track and field practice at San Luis Obispo High School stopped for a moment Tuesday.
Before the athletes started in on their daily routines, they gathered around a small tent set up in the middle of Holt Field to support senior CeCe Devaney.
Surrounded by applauding teammates and her family, Devaney signed her National Letter of Intent to join the Seattle University track and field team.

“It just came down to where I wanted to see myself environmentally, because where I go to school was really important to me,” Devaney said.
Devaney said that she was talking to coaches at UC Irvine and considered Cal Poly, but in the end the Division I school’s downtown campus was a “perfect fit.”
“It has all the majors that I want. I want to study music and psychology.” Devaney said. “They are able to offer me a good amount of academic and athletic financial aid.”
Devaney competed in four events for the Tigers this season — shot put, discus, high jump and long jump — and in college she will add three more when she competes in the heptathlon in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC). The seven-event heptathlon includes the high jump, the shot put, 200 meters, long jump, javelin throw, 100 meters and 800 meters.
“That should be tiring, but worth it,” Devaney said.
This season, Devaney excelled in the high jump and discus. She won discus event in five meets, including a first-place finish (128-4.5) at the PAC 8 Championships, and four first-place finishes in high jump with her best clearance of 5-2. She also had personal records in long jump (15-11.25) and discus (136-1.00).
