Prep Roundup: Morro Bay downs Atascadero in extra innings for baseball win; SLO also wins

Rajan Singh went 4 for 5 with four singles, including the game-winning hit in the ninth inning, and the Morro Bay High baseball team topped Atascadero, 7-6, on Tuesday for its first win of the season.

Parker Cyr pitched seven innings with two earned runs and seven strikeouts for Morro Bay (1-2), and Harrison Meinke had two scoreless innings of relief to earn the win.

Weston Mace tied the score on a single in the seventh after Eliza Garcia stole second to send the game into extra innings for the Pirates.

Zach Garcia went 4 for 5 with a double and an RBI for Atascadero (2-2).

Cabrillo 8, Arroyo Grande 6

Cabrillo scored four runs in the third inning after an Eagles’ throwing error with the bases loaded and one out.

Arroyo Grande got three runs back in the bottom of the inning on a two-run single by Nash Ackerman, but could not complete the comeback.

Ackerman finished 2 for 3, and Anthony Bautista was 2 for 3 with two runs for the Eagles (1-3).

San Luis Obispo 7, Nipomo 2

Jeremy Jess went 2 for 4 with four RBI as the Tigers broke a 1-1 tie with Jess’ two-run single in the fifth inning.

Nipomo’s Trevor Small was 2 for 3 with an RBI as the Titans (0-4) scored in the fourth and sixth.

Matt Mundorf was 2 for 3 with two runs and an RBI, while Jake Rodgers pitched a complete game with five strikeouts for San Luis Obispo (4-0).

King City 5, Coast Union 4

The Broncos (1-3) went into the bottom of the seventh with a 4-2 lead before a three-run rally by King City.

Gehrig Kniffen, Lane Sutherland and Zander Stoothoff were each 2 for 3 at the plate. Kniffen had two stolen bases, Sutherland had one, and Tommy Moreno had an RBI single for Coast Union.


Paso Robles 19, Nipomo 1

Madi Romero pitched a two-hitter with 11 strikeouts, and the Bearcats (3-2) offense did the rest.

Mikayla Stone was 4 for 4 with two RBI, Blair Orlando was 2 for 4 with two RBI and Chloe Kerns hit a two-run home run.

Hope Goodall and Kiesa Romero singled for the only hits for Titans (1-2).

San Luis Obispo 6, Morro Bay 3

Sam Good went 2 for 4 with a double and two RBI and pitched the final two innings in the Tigers’ road win.

Fallon Molnar had three RBI with a solo home run and a two-run double for the Pirates (0-4-1).

Bee Soll scored three times, and Hannah Gibbs pitched five innings for San Luis Obispo (2-1).

Atascadero 15, Templeton 1, 6 innings

Megan McClain was 3 for 3 with four RBI, including a two-run home run, in the Greyhounds’ road win.

Katie Murphee went 2 for 3 with an RBI double for Templeton (1-2).

Ali Reagan added a three-run home run, and Sally Bowles was 2 for 4 and pitched four innings with eight strikeouts for Atascadero (3-0).

Arroyo Grande 10, Lompoc 2

Logan Nunes and Julie Lewis went 2 for 4, and Lewis pitched the first four innings with four strikeouts for Arroyo Grande.

The Eagles (2-1) scored seven times in the first three innings, highlighted by a two-run triple by Natilee Parrish.

Santa Maria 9, Coast Union 5

Norma Brucio and Ashley Martinez each had a double and an RBI for the Broncos (1-4).


Mission Prep 3, Bishop Diego 0

The Royals won 26-24, 27-25, 25-16, as Paul Tompkins had 20 kills and 14 digs.

James McKiernan added 14 digs and nine kills, and Shaun O’Conner had 25 assists for Mission Prep (2-0).

Paso Robles 3, Santa Maria 0

The Bearcats won 25-19, 25-18, 25-6, and were led by Riley Rookus, who had 14 kills and four aces.

Juan Guerra registered 11 assists for Paso Robles (2-1).

San Luis Obispo 3, Orcutt Academy 0

Shea McSorely and Alex Chai had six kills each as the Tigers won 25-10, 25-14, 25-10. Bowen Schwoerer added 24 assists for San Luis Obispo (7-3).

Arroyo Grande 3, Nipomo 0

Keanu Morrison had 14 kills and six aces, and Conner Howard had eight kills and six aces as the Eagles won 25-4, 25-10, 25-11.

Hunter Roberts added 28 assists for Arroyo Grande (2-1).


Atascadero 12, Coast Union 6

The doubles team of Nico Jenkins and Rafa Gonzalez won 6-3, 6-4, 6-0 for Atascadero (5-2). Alexis Mireles swept in singles for Coast Union (0-4).

Morro Bay 12, Cabrillo 6

Ryan Morris swept 6-3, 6-3, 6-2, and Jake Clark took two of three singles sets for Morro Bay (4-1, 2-0 Los Padres League).

Lompoc 10, Templeton 8

Jarred Hall and Chaz Darrow both swept their singles sets for Templeton (1-3, 0-2 LPL).


Arroyo Grande 393, Mission Prep 481

The Eagles’ Conner Sandman was the individual medalist, shooting a 1-under 70 at Dairy Creek.

Nico Aurignac was the Royals’ top performer with an 82.

Mission Prep freshman Chandler Senior made a hole in on one on the 120-yard eighth hole.

Paso Robles 413, Pioneer Valley 598

Medalist Greg Potruch shot a 4-over 76 for the Bearcats at Hunter Ranch Golf Course.

San Luis Obispo 401, St. Joseph 434

Andy Eppright and Casey Leebrick both shot 79 for the Tigers (2-0, 1-0 PAC 8) at the par-72 Santa Maria Country Club.

Righetti 405, Atascadero 434

Cooper Armas led the Greyhounds (1-1, 0-1 PAC 8) with an 81 at the par-72 Rancho Maria course, as Righetti’s Brandon Pita was the medalist with a 74.

Tyra Popovich won the girls 50-yard freestyle in 26.51 seconds and was on the winning 200 freestyle relay (1:47.93) with Sabrina Johnson, Anna Petersen and Adeline Peterson.

Gabby Penvenne won the 100 butterfly (1:00.74), and Morgan Leishman won the 100 backstroke (1:03.14).
