Prep Roundup: San Luis Obispo wins its first league title in girls golf

The San Luis Obispo High girls golf team won the PAC 8 finals with a team score of 456 at Dairy Creek Golf Course on Wednesday, capturing its first league title in school history to advance to the CIF-Southern Section team event a week from today at Soule Park in Ojai.

Neha Sikand led the Tigers with an 83, while Lisa Figueroa shot an 84 and Isabel Carpenter shot 91.

Arroyo Grande finished third with a 510 as Kinsey McBryde shot a 94, and Tessa Oates shot 98.

Atascadero finished fourth with a 514 as Natalie Martinez shot a 97, and Morgan Humphrey shot 98.

Paso Robles finished fifth with a 595.

Mission Prep’s lone competitor was Sydney Haughian, who shot 89.

Second-place Righetti’s Sarah Fouratt was the individual medalist, shooting a 79 and was the league MVP.

Sikand, Fouratt, Haughian, and McBryde also qualified for the Individual Southern Section event and will compete at River Ridge Golf Course in Oxnard next week.


Arroyo Grande 11, Santa Barbara 7

Sophie Whittle led the Eagles, winning 6-0, 6-3, 6-0 against the fourth-ranked team in CIF-Southern Section Division I and moved to 37-0 on the season.

The Eagles’ doubles team of Angelica Gagliano and Olivia Madison won 6-3, 7-6 (2), 6-0, and Mary Waterman won 7-5, 1-6, 6-3 for Arroyo Grande (18-4).


Santa Ynez 13, Morro Bay 2

Travis Chirman and Julian Putnam each had a goal for Morro Bay (9-13, 3-1 Los Padres League) in the loss on the road.
