Prep Roundup: Forfeits carry big weight for Nipomo wrestlers

The Morro Bay High boys wrestling team won five of the eight matches they wrestled in against Nipomo Tuesday, but lost 54-18 after forfeiting six matches. 

Richard Beecham pinned Anthony Reyes in the second period for the Pirates (0-5 Los Padres League) in the 160-pound weight class. 

Freshmen Luis Alvarez and Alberto Mendoza battled on the mat in the 145-pound class and after six minutes, Alvarez won 10-7 for Morro Bay. 

Joe Morris (108), Tony Martinez (172) and Chris Maez (184) were the other Pirates to post victories in the dual meet.  

Arroyo Grande 45, San Luis Obispo 23  

Oscar Perdomo pinned Haven Kardel in 52 seconds for the Eagles in the 285-pound heavyweight class. 

Griffin Horton won 2-0 in the 160-pound class, also for Arroyo Grande (2-4 PAC 7). 

Eric Kardel of San Luis Obispo (2-5 PAC 7) pinned Jacob Huber in the 126-pound division. 


San Luis Obispo 4, Mission Prep 0

Lukas Holocher scored two goals and assisted on another in the Tigers’ shutout of the Royals. 

Willie Kirschner netted the first goal, and Ty Cooper, off Holocher’s assist, scored the third. 

Cameron Wright had three saves for San Luis Obispo (15-4-2). 

Morro Bay 3, Orcutt Academy 2

Isaac Manaputy led the Pirates to all three of their goals. 

Danny Ramirez scored the first goal for Morro Bay 

(5-15) on a penalty kick that was called when the Spartans took down Manaputy in the box. 

Manaputy netted the second goal off an assist from Carlos Moreno, and keeper Oscar Loeza scored the third goal that went from end-to-end because of Manaputy keeping the defenders off-balance. 

Loeza had 16 saves. 

Nipomo 1, Lompoc 0

Mike Arevalo netted the only goal for the Titans (7-16, 2-8 LPL) in the first half off Brian Araujo’s assist. 

Johann Ayala had seven saves. 

Cabrillo 3, Templeton 1

Matt Mosher scored the Eagles’ lone goal off an assist from Clayton MacKay. 

Yusuke Yokota recorded four saves for Templeton  (7-9-2, 4-4-2). 


Morro Bay 3, Orcutt Academy 1 

Senior Sadie Robbins scored the first goal for Morro Bay (8-9-4, 2-4-3), and her first of the season.

Senior Madelynn Martinez had eight saves. 


Coastal Christian 36, Coast Union 18

The Conquerors beat the Broncos (5-6, 5-3 Coast Valley League) for the first time in school history. 

Roni Garrison led the Conquerors (6-10, 4-2) with 12 points, 18 rebounds, and five blocks, and Amy Arnold had 15 rebounds and 10 points. 

Coastal Christian led 12-8 at halftime and outsocred the Broncos 24-10 in the second half.


Arroyo Grande 15, San Luis Obispo 3

Brooklyn Vander Veen led the Eagles to the win with three goals as Arroyo Grande ran its PAC 7 winning streak to 106 games. 

Nine players scored for Arroyo Grande (16-5, 6-0) 

Brittany Winn, Sarah Parsons and Isabella Manuele all scored two goals for the Eagles. 

Addy Foster, Autumn Faccinto and Annie Mullin all scored for the Tigers (6-13, 1-5). 

Paso Robles 7, Atascadero 6

The score was tied at 6 with about three minutes remaining in the game.

Laileha Zermy then scored for Paso Robles (10-12, 4-2 PAC 7) to put the Bearcats over the top.

Atascadero (7-5,4-3) had the last shot with five seconds left but couldn’t score.

Paso Robles’ Kelsey Lewis had nine saves.

Shannon Rees had four goals, and Lauren Reed, Lauren Sowerbi and Zermy all had one for the Bearcats.

Atascadero’s Lauren Giggy had 13 blocks with two steals. Kylie Ferree had four goals for the Greyhounds.
