Prep Roundup: Atascadero routs St. Joseph in boys basketball

With the combined scoring efforts of Robbie Berwick and Joe Johnson, the Atascadero High boys basketball team defeated St. Joseph 76-53 at home Friday. 

Berwick led Atascadero with 18 points, and Johnson scored 11 for the Greyhounds.

Connor Kim added 10 points for Atascadero. 

Keith Datu had 32 points for the Knights.   

Arroyo Grande 58, San Luis Obispo 34

Cobe Williams scored 19 points, and Carson Wack scored 17 to lead the Eagles (14-6, 4-1 PAC 7).

Williams and Wack had nine of the team’s 17 first-quarter points to give them a 14-point lead at the end of the quarter. 

Wack also had five rebounds and five steals.

Jonathan Edwards was the Tigers’ leading scorer with 10 points. 

Mission Prep 62, Paso Robles 55

Quinton Adlesh had a game-high 26 points for Mission Prep, and Kyle Stewart had 11 points and 14 rebounds for the Royals (13-4). 

Paso Robles (10-7) led by one at the half, but the Royals were able to pull away, scoring 20 points in the third and 15 in the fourth. 

Jaylon Davis led the Bearcats with 23 points.

Templeton 51, Santa Ynez 43

Aiden Sarbeck led the Eagles with 12 points and 12 rebounds to go along with Will Mehring’s 10 points, and Matt Jardini’s six points and five assists. 

Templeton (5-10, 2-2 LPL) was in control for most of the game and led by 12 going into the fourth quarter. 

Cabrillo 94, Nipomo 45

Freddy Ruiz led the Titans with 12 points as they fell to the Conquistadores. 

Luke Nicholson added 10 points for Nipomo (3-12, 1-4 LPL).

Coast Union 72, Shandon 45 

Quinten Raethke had 12 points and 12 rebounds for the Broncos. 

The game was close until the third quarter, when Coast Union (10-7, 3-0 Coast Valley League) outscored Shandon 21-5. 

Cicero Goodard was the bright spot for the Outlaws (6-6, 2-2), scoring 33 points. 


San Luis Obispo 37, Arroyo Grande 32 

Jessica Judge scored a game-high 24 points for the Tigers in their win over the Eagles. 

Biba Kirschner added nine points for San Luis Obispo (10-5, 2-2 PAC 7). 

Ashlyn Herlihy led Arroyo Grande (7-11, 2-3 PAC 7) with 13 points and nine boards. 

Atascadero 48, St. Joseph 46

The Greyhounds were up by seven going into the fourth quarter but saw their lead shrink to one in the closing seconds. 

Atascadero then went 1 for 2 from the free-throw line to go back up by two and hang on for the win. Maddy Leong led Atascadero (13-5, 3-1 PAC 7) with 14 points, and Chandler Haskall added 12 points.  

Templeton 58, Santa Ynez 30

The strong performances of Marissa Torres and Mari Stewart led the Eagles past the Pirates. 

Torres led Templeton (14-2, 4-0 LPL) with 18 points and four assists. Stewart scored 17 and grabbed 18 boards.  

Coastal Christian 41, Maricopa 35

Roni Garrison grabbed 20 boards and added 14 points to lead the Conquerors past the Indians. 

Amy Arnold had 17 points and seven rebounds for Coastal Christian (2-10, 1-4 CVL). 

Coast Union 57, Shandon 11

The Broncos got off to a quick start, outscoring the Outlaws 23-3 in the first quarter and continued to dominate throughout the game. 

Crystal Nunez led Coast Union (3-1 CVL) with 14 points. 

Karely Ochoa, Vianey Mora, Ahtziri Mora and Reagan Kniffen each added eight points for the Broncos. 

Mission Prep 60, Thacher 26

Noelle Laird, I’raya Smith and Taylor Neal all scored in double digits for the Royals. 

Laird scored 17 points, Smith added 13, and Neal had 10 points for Mission Prep (9-6). 


St. Joseph 4, Atascadero 3, 2 OT

After giving up two goals in the first half, the Greyhounds cut the deficit in half  when Cass Craker scored off a cross from Maia Mumford in the second half. 

Mumford then scored the next two goals for Atascadero (9-3-1, 0-3-1 PAC 7) to go up by one before a handball in the box allowed the Knights to tie score and send it to overtime. A defensive lapse in the second overtime ultimately allowed St. Joseph to score on a breakaway goal.
