Prep Roundup: Coast Union shuts out Morro Bay in boys soccer

The Coast Union High boys soccer team went on the road Thursday and shut out Morro Bay 2-0. 

The Pirates lost keeper Oscar Loeza to an arm injury in the first half, and on the ensuing free kick, Oscar Catalon scored the Broncos’ first goal on substitute Javi Valencia. 

Carlos Hernandez netted the second goal for Coast Union (4-7) from 35 yards out into the upper corner of the net.

Morro Bay (3-10) had six shots on goal in the first half, but the Broncos took over in the second. Between the two teams, there were eight cards issued in the game.

Jorge Renteria made three saves for the Broncos. 

Loeza had two saves before leaving the game, and Valencia had three.     

Templeton 1, Cabrillo 1, tie 

In the second overtime, Templeton’s Matt Mosher made a diving header in front of the goal to knock the ball out of the box and preserve the tie with the Conquistadors. 

Yusuke Yokota made three saves in each overtime and 12 during regulation for the Eagles (5-6-1, 2-1-1 Los Padres League). 

Jeffrey Hammond scored for Templeton in the first half off an assist from Taylor Burkes.

Lompoc 4, Nipomo 1

Mike Arrevalo scored the lone goal for the Titans. 

In goal, Jason Alvarado recorded six saves for Nipomo (4-11, 0-4 LPL). 


Morro Bay 3, Coast Union 1

Emma Hotaling scored three goals, including two in the final five minutes, for the Pirates (6-7-2). 

Cristina Plasencia scored the lone goal for the Broncos (9-4) on a second-half penalty kick.

Madelynn Martinez had eight saves in goal for Morro Bay. 

Cabrillo 4, Templeton 1

Courtney Elterman scored early in the second half for the Eagles off a pass into the box from Marian Robles. 

Goalkeeper Sammy Schmidt had six saves for Templeton (2-12, 1-3 LPL). 

Lompoc 1, Nipomo 0

Yocelyn Lopez made seven saves in goals for the Titans (4-7-2, 1-2-1 LPL).
