Prep Roundup: Degnan leads Atascadero girls basketball team to nonleague win over Paso Robles

Sabrina Degnan had 15 points to lead the Atascadero High girls basketball team to a

45-33 nonleague home win over fellow PAC 7 member Paso Robles on Tuesday night.

The rivals were tied at 19 at halftime, but the Greyhounds (6-3) outscored the Bearcats 14-6 in the final quarter to pull away.

Maddie Leong had 11 points, and Sara Wulff had eight points for Atascadero.

Jamika Martin led Paso Robles (0-7) with 12 points, and Gwen Lundy had 10 points.

Valley Christian 75, Shandon 20

A 50-point first half allowed the Lions to coast to a victory over the Outlaws. 

Sophomore Maribel Arroyo led the Outlaws (2-3, 0-1 Coast Valley League) with 11 points. 

Cuyama Valley 43, Coastal Christian 32

Roni Garrison had a game-high 15 points and 14 rebounds for the Conquerors (1-4, 0-1 CVL). 

Coastal Christian’s Lucy Wickstrom had eight points and 14 rebounds, and Hannah Brennan had eight rebounds. 


Arroyo Grande 2, San Marcos 2, tie

The Eagles scored first on a goal from Miguel Fregoso on an assist from Brian Wright.

San Marcos tied it before the half, and then took the lead midway through the second half.

Wright scored the equalizer on a header off a corner kick from Christian Merino with 10 minutes left in the game. Arroyo Grande (3-1-2) had a chance to win it, but missed a penalty kick in the 77th minute.

Danny Montero had five saves for the Eagles.

Templeton 3, Morro Bay 0

Austin Alarcon had a hat trick for Templeton (2-4, 1-0 Los Padres League), scoring two unassisted goals in the first half and a third in the second half off an assist from Michael Murray.


San Luis Obispo 1, San Marcos 1, tie

Trailing 1-0 at halftime, Katarina Drake played a through ball to Kelsey Harper, who one-timed it to tie the score for the Tigers midway through the second half.

Lily McCann had eight saves for San Luis Obispo (4-1-2).

Morro Bay 3, Templeton 0

Madelynn Martinez had nine saves to shut out the Eagles in the LPL opener for both teams.

Maddy Dazey had two goals, and Emma Hotaling had a goal and an assist for Morro Bay (2-2-1). Elsa Ruiz and Lexi Beaman also had assists.

Sammy Schmidt had three saves for Templeton (0-7).

Santa Maria 1, Nipomo 0, 2 OT

Yocelyn Lopez had seven saves for the Titans (2-6-1, 0-1 LPL) in the loss.


Arroyo Grande 14, Paso Robles 0

Melanie Popovich had four goals, as the Eagles rolled the Bearcats in the PAC 7 opener for both teams.

Brooklyn Vander Veen had three goals, and Isabella Manuelle had two goals for Arroyo Grande (3-3), which led 8-0 after the first quarter. 

Alana Benson had nine saves, and Kayla Menkins had seven saves for the combined shutout.


Coast Union 43, Nipomo 38

Angel Avina had 11 points and 11 rebounds, and Jezreel Lawson had 10 points, as the Broncos held off the Titans at home.

Logan Brandt had eight points for Coast Union (4-4), which was 10 for 10 from the free-throw line in the game.
