Eli Whittle of the Arroyo Grande High boys tennis team rallied from a first-set loss to defeat teammate Sean Hollister 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 and capture his fourth consecutive PAC 7 singles championship in Paso Robles on Friday, joining former Eagle and current Cal Poly men’s tennis player Andre Dome as the only players to do so.
The top seed in the tournament, Whittle advanced to the finals with a 6-4, 6-2 semifinal win over San Luis Obispo’s Nick Johnson, while Hollister, the No. 2 seed, defeated No. 3-seeded Cooper Austin of Paso Robles 6-0, 6-1. Austin defeated Johnson 8-5 in the third-place match.
It’s the third straight season Whittle defeated Hollister for the PAC 7 championship, but the first finals that Hollister won a set.
Whittle, who will attend Brown next fall, finishes the season with a 50-2 record and improves his stellar high school record to 214-13.
In doubles, San Luis Obispo’s team of Mason Hansen and Josh Milla, the No. 1 seeds, defeated the No. 2-seeded team of Derek Lakowske and Cole Laughton of Arroyo Grande 6-1, 6-3 to win the title.
Hansen and Milla defeated Righetti’s Will Veroski and Gustav Jarpehag 6-1, 6-1 in the semis, and Lakowske and Laughton defeated San Luis Obispo’s Luke Iunker and Noah Cleere 2-6, 6-1, 6-1 to reach the finals.
Iunker and Cleere defeated Veroski and Jarpehag 8-5 in the third-place match.
Los Padres League finals
Templeton’s Andrew Heim won his semifinal singles match 4-6, 6-4, 10-7, but fell in the finals 6-2, 6-4.
The Eagles’ doubles team of Ian Eisemann and Jacob Goldstein won 3-6, 6-4 (10-7) in the semifinal but fell in the finals to a Santa Ynez team 6-0, 6-3.
Heim and the team of Eiseman and Goldstein advance to the CIF-Southern Section individual prelims later this month.
Arroyo Grande 10, Paso Robles 2
Kyle Brown gave up two runs on three hits and struck out 10 in a complete-game win for the Eagles, who used a six-run sixth inning to blow the game open.
Casey Muth was 4 for 4 with three RBI and a run, and Chris Davidson, Zack Brown, Dylan Azevedo and A.J. Cippola had two hits each for Arroyo Grande (15-6-3, 10-3-2 PAC 7).
Kyle Brown recorded two RBI without a hit.
San Luis Obispo 9, Atascadero 8
Joey Benadiba was 2 for 3 with three RBI for the Tigers in their home win.
San Luis Obispo’s R.J. Hassey was 2 for 4 with two RBI and a run, and Garrett Giovannelli was 2 for 3 with three runs and two stolen bases.
Sinjin Todd was 2 for 4 with two runs, and an RBI, and Nick Hill was 2 for 3 with three runs, and Dylan McGee pitched four innings in the win.
Javine Nathaniel was 3 for 3 with two RBI, two runs and a double, and Clark Ball was 2 for 2 with two RBI, two runs and two doubles for the Greyhounds.
Holden Nix struck out four in five innings pitched and had two RBI for Atascadero (12-12-1, 7-7-1).
Morro Bay 3, Lompoc 2
Connor McQuaid-Pishione hit two doubles and had an RBI, and Kurtis Chivens was 2 for 3 for the Pirates (7-18, 3-7 LPL).
Dan Beavers pitched seven innings, giving up four hits in the win.
Coastal Christian 13, Maricopa 10
Every Conqueror got a hit in the win. Coastal Christian is 3-5 in the Coast Valley League.
Atascadero 8, St. Joseph 1
Sally Bowles gave up one run on five hits and struck out seven in the complete-game win for the Greyhounds.
Jessica Rouse was 3 for 4 with two doubles, two RBI and two runs, Kala Herzig added two hits and three RBI, and Carlin Stover was 2 for 3 with an RBI and a double for Atascadero (5-17, 4-6 PAC 7).
Arroyo Grande 8, San Luis Obispo 0
Jordan Robinson was 2 for 4 with three RBI, and Charlette Yracheta was 2 for 4 with two RBI as the Eagles shut out the Tigers at home.
Bailey Killough had an RBI, and Rebecca Hernandez pitched six innings, striking out four in the win.
Cabrillo 5, Templeton 4
The Eagles had runners on second and third with two out in the bottom of the seventh, but the runner was out at home plate after a passed ball, ending the game.
Ashley Stevens was 2 for 3 with a double and two RBI, Corinne Barto was 2 for 4 with an RBI, and Kristina Raine added a double for Templeton (11-13, 5-5 LPL).
Lompoc 9, Morro Bay 4
The Braves scored five runs in the second inning to put the game away early in Morro Bay.
Caitlyn Cowardin, Fallon Molnar and Michelle Cordova had two hits each for the Pirates (5-5 LPL).
Mission Prep 21, Alpaugh 11
Taylor Neal was 3 for 4 with two bases-clearing triples and had seven RBI in the Royals’ home victory.
Mission Prep’s Krista Arndt struck out six in four innings, and was 2 for 3 with three runs and four RBI.
Kianna Harris was 4 for 5 with two RBI and three runs, and Katie Chapman-Pinto was 3 for 3 with four runs for the Royals (5-13).
Coastal Christian 9, Maricopa 4
Ronnie Garrison gave up two earned runs on three hits and struck out four in the complete-game win as the Conquerors cruised.
Garrison also went 2 for 4 with a home run and two runs, and Amy Arnold and Hannah Brennan added two hits apiece for Coastal Christian (6-6, 5-4 CVL), which secured a spot in the CIF-Southern Section Division 7 playoffs.
