Prep Roundup: Arroyo Grande loses to Righetti in battle of PAC 7 baseball leaders

The Arroyo Grande High baseball team hit six batters and walked five in its 11-4 loss at Righetti on Tuesday.

Zach Brown had the only hit for the Eagles, going 1 for 3 with three RBI. 

Arroyo Grande led 4-3 after the third inning, but allowed six runs in the fifth to make the score 11-4 for the Warriors.

“We hit and walked a lot of guys and Righetti was able to get the big hits with the bases loaded,” Eagles coach Brad Lachemann said. “We loaded the bases but couldn’t get the big hits.”

Arroyo Grande (8-6-1, 4-3 PAC 7) left the bases loaded twice, but couldn’t capitalize. 

The Eagles will face Righetti (5-2) again today at 4:30 p.m.

Templeton 8, Cabrillo 3

Michael Frigon was 5 for 5 with three runs scored and three stolen bases in the Eagles’ victory.

Mac Lardner (5-0) pitched six innings, giving up three earned runs in the first inning and then held the Conquistadores scoreless for the win. 

Templeton (11-1, 4-0 Los Padres League) took an early lead, going up 4-3 in the first inning.

Spencer Walsh was 3 for 4 with four RBI for the Eagles.

Lompoc 5, Morro Bay 4

Zac Barkus hit a two RBI single, and Shasta Clokey added an RBI single for the Pirates (6-13, 1-3 LPL) in the loss.

Coast Union 12, Shandon 2, 5 innings

Emony Godinez earned the win for the Broncos (5-5, 4-0 Coast Valley League), giving up one hit and striking out five in two scoreless innings.

Lane Sutherland and Tommy Moreno each had an RBI triple, and Tommy Howard was 2 for 2 with two RBI and a double for Coast Union.

Maricopa 21, Coastal Christian 20

Mitchell Rey was 5 for 6 with a double for the Conquerors (0-4, 0-2 CVL).


Arroyo Grande 3, San Luis Obispo 1

Zephora Caudill was 3 for 4 with a triple and two runs scored to lead the Eagles past the Tigers in San Luis Obispo.

Charlotte Yracheta was 2 for 2, Ramie Castilleja had a two-RBI single, and Jessie Robinson added an RBI triple for Arroyo Grande (7-9, 3-2 PAC 7).

Rebecca Hernandez earned the win, giving up one run on three hits and 

striking out four over 5 1⁄3 innings for the Eagles.

Andrea Reynolds was 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI for the Tigers (1-3 PAC 7), and struck out 11 batters, walked one and gave up seven hits in a complete-game loss.

Erica Chandler was 2 for 3 with a double, a run and a stolen base for San Luis Obispo.

Atascadero 10, St. Joseph 4

The Greyhounds had 16 hits in their PAC 7 win.

Keara Blodget was 3 for 4 with an RBI, and Nique Mack was 3 for 4 with a triple and two RBI for Atascadero.

Tori Comin was 2 for 4 with three RBI, and Kaila Herzig was 2 for 4 with a double and two RBI for the Greyhounds (8-6, 2-2).

Lompoc 7, Morro Bay 2

Jordan Ferring was 1 for 3 with an RBI for the Pirates (6-10, 3-1 LPL). 

Morro Bay’s Carli Watt was 1 for 3 with a double and a run.

Cabrillo 5, Templeton 1

Corinne Barto allowed three hits, walked none, struck out five and allowed no earned runs in six innings pitched, but five unearned runs cost the Eagles in the loss.

Barto had a double at the plate, finishing 1 for 3, and Ashley Stevens had a sacrifice fly that scored Julianne Salcido for Templeton (4-9, 1-3 LPL).

Cuyama Valley 27, North County Christian 16

Grace Bolton was 1 for 2 with two RBI and three runs for North County Christian (0-8, 0-3 CVL), while teammate Liz Crespo was 1 for 2 with four runs and five stolen bases.


Arroyo Grande 3, Pioneer Valley 0

Andrew Midyett had nine kills and seven blocks to lead the Eagles to their ninth straight win to start the season and their third consecutive victory to open PAC 7 play.

Chandler Mankins had eight kills and five blocks, Jack Empey had 31 assists and Kris Kleinsmith had eight digs for Arroyo Grande.

Righetti 3, San Luis Obispo 1

Shea McSorley and Parker Lauritzen had 11 kills each for the Tigers in their 25-19, 12-25, 25-20, 25-21 loss.

Kieran Hansen had 36 assists for San Luis Obispo (7-4, 3-2 PAC 7).

Templeton 3, Morro Bay 0

Henri Cherri had 13 kills and 11 aces in the Eagles’ 25-18, 25-13, 25-15 victory. 

Jordan Scully had seven kills and two aces, and Sam Chatham had three kills and one ace for Templeton (8-1, 7-0 LPL).

Santa Ynez 3, Nipomo 1

Brandon Buchon had 15 kills and Alex Martinez had 27 assists for the Titans (3-8).

Scott Gaddis had eight kills in the 25-18, 25-13, 22-25, 25-15 loss.

Laguna Blanca 3, Mission Prep 0

The Royals fell 25-17, 25-20, 25-22 on the road. 

Jack Mooney had nine kills, seven digs and two blocks, and Sean O’Connor had 25 assists and four digs for Mission Prep (4-7).


Arroyo Grande 17, St. Joseph 1

Sean Hollister did not give up a point as he swept his singles sets for the Eagles (13-3, 7-0 PAC 7). 

Arroyo Grande’s Bryan Rozo swept 6-2, 6-2, 6-0 in singles, while the Eagles’ doubles teams swept all nine of their sets.

Atascadero 16, Coast Union 2

John McElgunn won two of his three singles sets for the Broncos (0-6) in their nonleague loss.

Templeton 14, Lompoc 4

Andrew Heim swept 6-0, 6-2, 6-3 for the Eagles in the LPL matchup. 

Templeton’s Michael Murray swept 6-4, 6-4, 6-4, and the doubles team of Calvin Pinson and Ian Eiseman won 6-1, 6-1.


Arroyo Grande 402, St. Joseph 467

Mitch Martin shot a 2-under 70 to medal for the Eagles at the Santa Maria Country Club. 

Conner Sandman shot an 81, and Cobe Williams shot an 82 for Arroyo Grande (7-1, 5-1 PAC 7).
