Prep Roundup: Arroyo Grande downs San Luis Obispo in PAC 7 baseball

A.J. Cipolla was 3 for 4 with an RBI and two runs scored for the Arroyo Grande High baseball team as the Eagles defeated San Luis Obispo 11-2 in their PAC 7 league opener Tuesday. 

Cole Steverson pitched the first six innings for the win, and closer Connor Leachman struck out the side in the seventh for the Eagles (2-2-1, 1-0).

Arroyo Grande’s Dylan Azavedo was 2 for 4 with two RBI.

Atascadero 6, Paso Robles 5

No other information was provided to The Tribune.

Santa Ynez 8, Morro Bay 0

Santa Ynez starting pitcher Hunter Totemeier pitched a complete-game shutout, allowing six hits and walking none while striking out nine.

Colt Caravalho (1-3) pitched 3 2⁄3 innings for Morro Bay (3-6, 0-2 Los Padres League) and gave up five earned runs with striking out three and walking none. 

Connor McQuaid-Pishione was 2 for 3 for Morro Bay.

Coast Union 9, Valley Christian 1

Quintin Raethke pitched a complete game with 10 strikeouts and three walks to earn the win for the Broncos in the Coast Valley League win. 

He was also 4 for 4 at the plate with two doubles and two RBI. 

Coast Union’s Emmany Godinez was 4 for 5 with two RBI, and Lane Sutherland and Grant Magnuson were both 2 for 4.

SOFTBALL

San Luis Obispo 3, Pioneer Valley 1

Andrea Reynolds (6-1) pitched a complete-game two-hitter, allowing one unearned run in the fourth inning on five strikeouts with no walks to lead the Tigers.

Reynolds helped her own cause with a RBI fielder’s choice in the third inning.

San Luis Obispo (7-2, 1-0 PAC 7) scored all its runs in the third. Erica Chandler was 1 for 3 with a double and a run scored, and Hailey Rich was 1 for 3 with a RBI. Madi Waiters was 1 for 2 with a RBI.

Arroyo Grande 13, St. Joseph 4

The Eagles came out swinging in their PAC 7 opener, scoring 13 runs on 17 hits.

Arroyo Grande’s Rebekah Hernandez pitched 51⁄3 innings and four strikeouts in the win.

Adriana Ranjel was 3 for 5 with a double and three RBI for the Eagles (3-5, 1-0), and Jessica Robinson was 1 for 4 with a three-run home run.

Righetti 12, Paso Robles 5

Chloe Kerns was 2 for 3 with one RBI for the Bearcats, who fell to the Warriors at home. 

Jenna Rodgers was 1 for 4 with a double and two RBI for Paso Robles (5-5, 0-1 PAC 7).

Morro Bay 12, Santa Ynez 1, 5 innings

Morro Bay (5-8, 2-0 LPL) scored 10 runs in the fourth inning to break the game open.

Carli Watt had a bases-loaded double in the fourth and finished with four RBI, and Caitlyn Cowardin had a two-run double.

Madelynn Martinez had a two-run single, and Alyssa Noriega was 1 for 2 with three runs scored. Marissa Tabares (3-3) pitched a complete-game one-hitter with four strikeouts and four walks.

Nipomo 7, Lompoc 2

Courtney Cuzick pitched a complete game, striking out 14 to earn the win for the Titans.

Cuzick was also 2 for 4 with a run scored, and Abby Trisman was 3 for 3 with three runs scored for Nipomo (9-0, 3-0).

Coast Union 19, Valley Christian 4, 5 innings

Elie Magnuson pitched four shutout innings with seven strikeouts to earn the win for the Broncos (4-3, 2-0 CVL).

Coast Union’s Ashley Martinez was 2 for 3 with a double and four RBI. 

Gabby Bucio was 3 for 4 with three RBI, and Sage Radecki was 2 for 3 with three RBI for the Broncos. 

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

San Luis Obispo 3, Mission Prep 1

Shea McSorley and Trey Davis had 10 kills apiece for the Tigers as they beat the Royals 25-17, 25-19, 27-29, 25-17.

Kieran Hansen had 27 assists for San Luis Obispo (5-1), and Rennie Heza had 16 digs.

Mission Prep’s Sean O’Conner had 41 assists. Jack Looney had 10 kills, 29 digs and three aces for the Royals (2-4), and Matt Souchek had 15 kills, 14 digs and two aces.

Arroyo Grande 3, Santa Ynez 0

The Eagles swept 25-19, 25-14, 25-15 behind Jack Empey’s 32 assists and two kills.

Logan Honeycutt had eight kills, Andrew Midyett had five kills, and Kyle Skinner had six digs for Arroyo Grande (5-0).

Nipomo 3, Morro Bay 2

Brandon Buchan had 20 kills, and Tyler Moore had 15 as the Titans rallied to win 14-25, 15-25, 25-18, 25-21, 15-12.

Alex Martinez had 44 assists, and Mason Stewart and Scott Gaddis each had four kills for Nipomo (2-5, 1-0 LPL).

Templeton 3, Santa Maria 0

Eric Lahargou had 11 aces to lead the Eagles to a 25-8, 25-16, 25-15 sweep over the Saints.

Henry Cherry had 11 kills, and Tobey Isbell had seven kills for Templeton (5-0, 2-0 LPL).

BOYS TENNIS

Arroyo Grande 15, Atascadero 3

The doubles team of Derek Lakowske and Cole Laughton swept 6-2, 6-0, 6-0, as the visiting Eagles (9-2, 4-0 PAC 7) beat the Greyhounds.

The doubles team of Jamieson Omarr and Skyler Virpolo swept 7-6 (7-4), 6-1, 6-0, and singles player Sean Hollister swept 6-0, 6-0, 6-0 for Arroyo Grande.

San Luis Obispo 15, Paso Robles 3

The doubles team of Luke Iunker and Noah Cleere swept 6-2, 6-0, 6-0 for the Tigers in their home win. 

Brandon Lippold and Cole Stevenson swept 6-3, 6-1, 6-0 for San Luis Obispo (6-2, 3-0 PAC 7). 

Santa Maria 11, Morro Bay 7

Arthur Abel and Cole Engert swept 6-3, 6-3, 6-3 in doubles for the Pirates (1-3, 0-2 LPL).

Templeton 15, Cabrillo 3

Michael Murray swept his singles sets 6-0, 6-0, 6-3 for Templeton (7-0, 2-0 LPL).

Andrew Heim swept 7-6, 6-1, 6-1 in singles, and Jarred Hall won 6-2, 6-2 for Templeton in singles. 

The Eagles’ doubles team of Calvin Pinson and Chris Wallace swept 6-0, 6-0, 6-2.

BOYS GOLF

San Luis Obispo 375,  Arroyo Grande 384

The Tigers’ Adam Zakaria and the Eagles’ Mitch Martin were the medalists with a 2-under 69 at Dairy Creek Golf Course in San Luis Obispo.

Kush Sikand (72), Michael Zakaria (76) and Grady Smith (78)  all had good rounds for San Luis Obispo (6-0, 3-0 PAC 7).

Connor Sandman finished with a 76, and Cobe Williams shot a 78 for Arroyo Grande.
