The Arroyo Grande High girls soccer team fell in the quarterfinals of the CIF-Southern Section Division 3 playoffs Thursday with a 2-1 overtime loss at Oaks Christian.
After a scoreless first half, Arroyo Grande (18-2-6) lost leading scorer Nadine Reed to an ankle injury and did not have many chances on goal as a result.
Second-seeded Oaks Christian (19-3-1) scored first. Then, the Eagles’ Elizabeth Heyde responded by scoring off a free kick with eight minutes to go in regulation.
However, six minutes into overtime, a loose ball bounced to the feet of an Oaks Christian player, who buried it in the upper corner for the golden goal win and a berth in the divisional semifinals.
