Prep Roundup: Mission Prep finishes third at its Christmas Classic

Andy Rowley scored 17 points for the Mission Prep boys basketball team in its 55-52 loss to Taft in the third-place game at the Mission Prep Christmas Classic on Saturday.

The teams were tied at halftime, but the Toreadors pulled ahead by three by the end of the third and kept the lead to win. 

Rowley was responsible for four of the Royals’ eight 3-point field goals and had five assists. Connor Woolpert scored 15 points, and Quentin Adlesh scored 12 with a team-high six assists.

The Royals are 6-4.

Marin Catholic 62, San Luis Obispo 54

David Thoresen had 14 points, and Blake Shapazian added 11, but the Tigers (5-8) fell in the seventh-place game at the Mission Prep Christmas Classic.

San Luis Obispo’s inability to get to the free-throw line at the Classic continued as the Tigers attempted just four foul shots, making three, after going 4 for 5 at the line Friday. Marin Catholic was 20 for 22 in the game.

Shapazian said on Twitter that he suffered a broken ankle in the game and is likely done for the season.


Mission Prep at Nutcracker Invitational

Sydney Rathjens scored for the Royals in their 1-0 victory over Taft. Grace Oeser had three saves in goal for Mission Prep.

The Royals later defeated Sacred Heart 8-0. Rathjens, Anabel Scott and Alexa Bruger each scored twice for Mission Prep, and Oeser had five saves for the Royals (7-2-1).


Arroyo Grande at South Bay Classic

The Eagles (7-7) lost 1-0 to Leuzinger on Saturday after falling to Loyola 2-0 in the quarterfinals of the South Bay Classic on Friday. 

Goalkeeper Aaron Friedman had five saves for the Eagles, who finished seventh in the tournament.


Burroughs 71, Arroyo Grande 49

Alex Mero scored 11 points for the Eagles in their loss to the Indians at the Burroughs Tournament in Burbank.

Olivia Galindo and Ashlyn Herlihy scored 10 apiece for Arroyo Grande (7-6).
