Coastal Christian girls volleyball sweeps Lompoc

The Coastal Christian girls volleyball team opened its season with a gratifying victory over a much larger school, sweeping Lompoc 25-17, 25-8, 27-25.

Coastal Christian dominated the first two sets. Leslie Henry totaled 3 kills, Roni Garrison had 24 digs and JoAnn Lindstaedt had 24 assists. With only enough players to field a starting lineup — the Conquerors do not enough have the luxury of a libero — coach Misty Sano was unsure how the lack of depth would have played out in a fourth set.

“We came out strong and held our own against a bigger team,” Sano said. “We held strong until the third game, until we got taken out of our system. “But we rallied and came through and fought. We took the victory, which is good because I didn’t think I go a fourth.”
