Prep Roundup: Templeton downs Coast Union in volleyball opener

The Templeton High volleyball team defeated Coast Union in straight sets Thursday night 25-22, 25-9, 25-20 in the season opener for both teams.

Heather Fields led the way for the Eagles, tallying 14 kills and five aces.

Carly Roth had nine kills and one ace, and Mari Stewart had six kills for Templeton.

Sydney Roth had a team-high 19 assists, Autumn Russell added 16 assists, five kills and an ace and Lindsey Wyatt had 16 digs for Templeton.

For the Broncos, Roxy Mertens had four kills and eight digs, Karla Soto had three kills and five digs and Sage Radecki had eighteen assists.

Atascadero 3, Morro Bay 0

The Greyhounds defeated the Pirates 26-24, 25-15, 25-14 in the season opener for both teams.

Sophia Guerrier had 10 kills and five aces for Atascadero. Kendall Featherstone added eight kills, and 13 digs and Maren Cracknell had six kills for the Greyhounds.

Arroyo Grande 3, Santa Ynez 0

Mellisa Morrow’s 20 kills and three aces led the Eagles to a win in their first match of the season.

Jade Fuller had game-high 22 digs to go along with three aces. Alaina Hogeboom had 38 assists, and Megan McGuigan had a team-high five aces to go with two blocks and three kills.

San Luis Obispo 3, Cabrillo 1

The Tigers rallied after losing the first set of their opening match of the season, defeating the Conquistadores 25-27, 25-13, 25-16, 25-17.

Maggie Eppright had 35 assists to lead San Luis Obispo. Anna Pederson had 12 kills, and Ariel Becker had 10. Erin Good recorded 15 digs.

Paso Robles 3, Orcutt Academy 0

In their season-opening match, the Bearcats swept the Spartans 25-6, 25-8, 25-16.

St. Joseph 3, Mission Prep 2

The Royals (1-1) rallied from a 2-0 deficit to tie the match but lost in the deciding fifth set to the Knights in Santa Maria.

St. Joseph prevailed 25-19, 25-23, 23-25, 19-25, 15-12.

Grace Ready had 22 kills, 21 digs and four aces, and Noelle Laird had 12 kills, 20 digs and three aces for Mission Prep.

Natalie Brescia led the Royals with 48 assists.

GIRLS TENNIS

Santa Ynez 12, San Luis Obispo 6

Maya O’Brien swept all three of her matches as the Tigers (0-2) fell at home.

O’Brien won by the scores of 6-2, 6-2, 6-4.

San Luis Obispo’s doubles team of Lauren Hutkin and Joelle Lewis won 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.

Paso Robles 14, Coast Union 4

The Greyhounds won their season-opener behind Maria Tetiy, and the doubles team of Amanda Keller and Riley Austin.

Tetiy swept 6-4, 6-0, 6-0, and Keller and Austin swept 6-4, 6-3, 6-1.

The Broncos (0-2) were led by Alex Zaragoza, who who won two of her three matches. The doubles team of Morgan May and Kylie Castle won two of their three sets for Coast Union.

Arroyo Grande 12, Dos Pueblos 6

Lauren Hayashi swept 6-1, 6-1, 6-0, as the Eagles (2-0) defeated the Chargers.

Arroyo Grande’s doubles team of Melina Rodgers and Angelica Gagliano won two of their three matches.

St. Joseph 17, Nipomo 1

The Titans lost their season-opening match to the Knights.

Nicole Johnson had Nipomo’s only win in singles.

GIRLS GOLF

Arroyo Grande 239, San Marcos 297

Anna Zhang shot a 10-over 46 on the front nine at Cypress Ridge Golf Course as the Eagles (2-0) cruised in a non-league dual.

Ramie Castilleja and Tessa Oates both shot a 47 for Arroyo Grande, and Emma Fuhs added a 48.
