Two students from Arroyo Grande’s Paulding Middle School who compete for the Central Coast Runners Track Club earned top-11 finishes in the past week at the Junior Olympic Track and Field Championships.
In the Youth Boys (13-14-year-olds) division, Christian Ricketts was sixth in the 3,000-meter run in 9 minutes, 23.01 seconds, a personal record. His time also broke a Pacific Association age group record. Ricketts will be entering the eighth grade.
In the Midget Girls (11-12-year-old) division, Malia Simon finished 11th in the 3,000 in 11:29.26, also a PR. She will be entering the seventh grade.
Today, Talley Hill will be competing in the Youth Girls (13-14-year-olds) 1,500-meter run final.

The qualifying process to the Junior Olympic Nationals included these runners having to place in the top 12 at the Pacific Association Meet in Modesto and then, from there, placing in the top five at the Region 14 Meet (Central California and Pacific Association) in Tulare.
