Prep Roundup: San Luis Obispo boys tennis opens with win over San Marcos

It took the help of a tiebreaker, but the San Luis Obispo High boys tennis team opened the season with a win over San Marcos on Wednesday.

The two teams ended the match at a 9-9 tie, but the Tigers (1-0) walked away with the victory by winning 74 games to 70 for San Marcos.The Tigers’ No. 1 doubles duo of Mason Hensen and Adrian Angulo swept 6-0, 6-2, 6-0.

Both Josh Milla and Niel Patel won two of three sets in singles. Milla dropped his first set 6-1, before winning the next two 6-2, 6-2. Patel fell in his set 6-0 as well, and then won 6-3, 6-0.


Morro Bay at San Luis Obispo

Alan Peterson posted CIF qualifying times in the 200-yard and 500-yard freestyles as both the girls and boys Tigers swimming teams downed Morro Bay, but team scores were unavailable.

Peterson placed first in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1 minute, 48.30 seconds, while also winning the 500 freestyle in 4:54.88.

Evan Holtz finished behind him in the 500 freestyle, posting a CIF qualifying mark of 4:59.82 to place second.

Graham Johnson also won two events. He placed first in the 100 butterfly (55.33) and the 50 freestyle (23.57).

Tyler Andree won the 200 individual medley in 2:10.16 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:10.07.

On the girls side, Teagan Griffith placed first in the 100 butterfly (1:11.07) and the 200 freestyle (2:12.17).

Gabrielle Penvenne finished the 100 breastroke in 1:19.02 to win, and then won the 500 freestyle (5:32.42).
