Prep Playoff Roundup: Three PAC 7 teams advance in boys basketball playoffs

The Atascadero High boys basketball team sank six 3-pointers as the Greyhounds defeated Lompoc in the first round of the CIF-Southern Section Division 3A playoffs Wednesday.

Hayden Mislavsky scored a team-high 15 points, with three 3-pointers, and Robbie Berwick scored 12 points for Atascadero (17-9).

“We had a lot of players get to play and score, but we’re going to have to be more efficient with our opportunities in the next two rounds,” Atascadero coach Jerry Tamelier said. “We’re definitely going to have to step things up Friday (in the second round).”

San Luis Obispo 57, Cabrillo 35

Chandler Torres led the Tigers with 15 points, including three 3-pointers, and San Luis Obispo defeated the Conquistadores in the first round of the Division 3A playoffs.

Matt Moore scored 10 points for San Luis Obispo (14-12), and David Thoresen, Scott Inman and Blake Shapazian scored eight.

Mission Prep 74, Nuview Bridge 27

Connor Woolpert scored a team-high 15 points as the Royals cruised to a first-round win over Nuview Bridge in the Division 5AA playoffs.

Zach Allmon scored 13 points and grabbed seven rebounds for Mission Prep (22-5), while Patrick Laird had eight points.

Bishop Montgomery 66, Templeton 26

The Eagles (11-15) fell to the Knights and were eliminated from the Division 4AA playoffs in the first round.

Templeton trailed by 10 after the first quarter, but Bishop Montgomery’s lead increased to 30 after outscoring the Eagles 22-2 in the second quarter.

Andy Garretson led Templeton with seven points.

Lancaster Baptist 45, Coast Union 32

Quentin Raethke scored a team-high 14 points with nine rebounds, as Lancaster Baptist defeated the Broncos in the Division 6 playoffs.

Angel Avina had 12 points for Coast Union (14-7).

Pacific Hills 82, Nipomo 29

Kaileb Mendez scored a team-high 10 points as the Titans (8-20) fell to Pacific Hills in the Division 4A playoffs.

Both Tyler Eschenbach and Ryan McNeil scored eight points each.

Arroyo Grande 63, La Mirada 41

Eastside Christian 52, North County Christian 36

The Crusaders (10-13) fell in the first round of the Division 6 playoffs to the Eagles.

Eastside Christian outscored North County Christian 51-24 in the first three quarters.

Daniel Katches led the Crusaders with 10 points and 11 rebounds.


Arroyo Grande 10, Ayala 2

The Eagles (25-5) defeated the Bulldogs to advance to the second round of the Division 3 playoffs.

Arroyo Grande’s Katie Sverchek led all scorers with four goals, Hanna Kope scored three and Madison Ochotorena added two.

Kylie Anderson and Hannah Wadlow combined for 11 saves in goal for the Eagles.


Bishop Montgomery 1, Atascadero 0

The Greyhounds (14-11-1) couldn’t rebound from an early Bishop Montgomery goal, falling in the Division 3 playoffs.

Hannah Tovar had three saves, and Emily Johnson had five.

Nipomo 5, Fillmore 0

Junior forward Denise Belmontes scored three goals and assisted on another to lead the Titans (12-7-2) at home past Fillmore (11-5-4) in the wild-card round of the Division 5 playoffs.

Nipomo also got big games from Cristina Ozzimo (one goal), Kaity Kendricks (one goal, one assist) and goalkeepers Brianna Gonzalez and Ebony Quarles, who combined for three saves. The Titans, who were ahead 3-0 at halftime, forced Fillmore to use three different goalkeepers.

Nipomo will play Rio Mesa (16-6-4) on Friday in the first round of the division tournament in Oxnard.
