Prep Roundup: San Luis Obispo downs St. Joseph in girls water polo

The San Luis Obispo High girls water polo team defeated St. Joseph 14-5 on Thursday afternoon behind solid goalkeeping and a potent offensive attack.

Zoe Berkowitz had nine saves in goal for the Tigers (15-11, 7-3 PAC 7), allowing San Luis Obispo to build an early lead.

Elizabeth Waddell scored four goals to lead the Tigers. Arianna Shakibnia scored three, and Ali Hart and Abby Holister added two goals each.

San Luis Obispo plays next on the road against Righetti on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. before wrapping up the season against Pioneer Valley at home on Thursday.


Nipomo 3, Lompoc 1

Buddy Kichler had two goals and an assist, Mike Arevalo had one goal and one assist and the Titans (11-9-3, 9-2-0 LPL) cruised at home.

Erubey Ponce had eight saves in goal for Nipomo.

Morro Bay 2, Mission Prep 1

Marcel Gragein scored the lone Royals goal early to give Mission Prep (1-15-3) the early 1-0 lead, but the Pirates (7-11-1) answered before halftime with a goal by Jackson Chaves.

Chris Reyes scored the game winner for Morro Bay shortly after halftime.


Morro Bay 3, Mission Prep 1

Hanna Meisinger had nine saves in goal to lead the Pirates (4-15-1).

Sadie Robins scored two goals, and Macey Burgeson added a goal and an assist for Morro Bay.

Nipomo 1, Lompoc 0, OT

Kaitlyne Fernandez won it for the Titans (11-6-2, 7-3-1) off a penalty kick in the first overtime period.

Nipomo goalie Brianna Gonzales had five saves in the first half, and Ebony Quarles had three for the Titans in the second half.

Cabrillo 3, Templeton 1

Sammy Bronkar scored off a free-kick assist by Lindsay Pansom, but the Eagles lost at home. Sammy Schmidt had 15 saves in goal for Templeton.
