Prep Roundup: Nipomo sweeps Templeton in LPL soccer

The Nipomo High girls soccer team defeated Templeton 2-0 Tuesday night in a Los Padres League matchup.

Denise Belmontes scored both goals for the Titans (10-6-2, 6-3-1 LPL), with one assisted by Christina Ozzimo.

Brianna Gonzales had three saves in goal in the first half for Nipomo, and Ebony Quarles had four saves in the second.

Sammy Schmidt and Briana Daxley combined for five saves for the Eagles.

Santa Ynez 1, Morro Bay 0

Hanna Meisinger had 17 saves in goal for Morro Bay (3-6-1, 3-14-1 LPL), allowing just one second-half goal in the loss to Santa Ynez.

BOYS SOCCER

Nipomo 5, Templeton 1

Buddy Kichler and Caleb Doane led the Titans (10-9-3, 8-2 LPL) with two goals apiece. Jonathan Gomez also scored a goal for Nipomo, and Erubey Ponce had six saves in goal for the Titans.

Coast Union 8, Orcutt Academy 1

Luis DeAlba, Victor Casas and Andy Gordon all scored twice as Broncos (10-2-2) won on the road.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Coast Union 57, Coastal Christian 31

Quinten Raethke led the Broncos (11-5, 8-5 Coast Valley League) with 16 points. Angel Avina added 14 points for Coast Union.

The Conquerors’ Curtis Henry had a game-high 18 points, and Isaac Close added seven.

Valley Christian 52, North County Christian 47

Daniel Katches had 17 points and 16 rebounds, Adam Bossom had 10 points and the Crusaders (8-11, 6-4 CVL) fell on the road.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Valley Christian 60, North County Christian 47

Crusaders freshman Melat Zippi scored a career-high 23 points to go with 15 rebounds in the loss for North County Christian (10-2, 8-2 CVL).

Aliyah Morrison grabbed 12 rebounds to go with her four points, Mandy Legault had eight points and six assists and Brianna Feld scored 10 for the Crusaders.

Coastal Christian 33, Coast Union 29

Roni Garrison had a game-high 16 points to go with 15 rebounds for the Conquerors (6-6, 6-3 CVL).

GIRLS WATER POLO

Arroyo Grande 19, San Luis Obispo 1

Alexis Elias scored five goals, Katie Sverchek and Brooklyn VanderVeen scored four each and the Eagles (20-2, 10-0 PAC 7) cruised to a victory over the Tigers (15-11, 6-3 PAC 7).

Hannah Cope added three goals, and Kylie Anderson and Hannah Wadlow combined for five saves in goal for Arroyo Grande.

Atascadero 15, St. Joseph 4

The Greyhounds won big on the road behind Claire Leong (four goals), Erin Morey and Rachel Gurtzmacher (three goals each).

Lauren Giggy and Lauryn Cooper combined for 11 saves in goal for Atascadero.

WRESTLING

Nipomo 39, Santa Maria 28

Josue Sanchez (220 pounds), Damian Duran (126), Clayton Fowler (160) and Tommy Saenz (182) all won by pin for the Titans, who improved their LPL record to 5-0 on the season.

Jared Dorado (195), Damion Llamas (138) and Adam Chavarria (145) all won by decision for Nipomo.

Morro Bay 41, Santa Ynez 31

Tyler Richmond (113), Dolin Mininni (145), Christian DeLeon (160) and Carlos Coates (heavyweight) all won by pin, and Elijah Gecad (106) won by major decision for the Pirates (4-1 LPL).
