Prep Roundup: Mission Prep defeats St. Joseph in boys basketball

The Mission Prep boys basketball team defeated St. Joseph High 55-46 Tuesday night.

Connor Woolpert led the Royals (18-4) with 16 points, and Zach Allmon added a near triple-double with 14 points, 19 rebounds and eight blocked shots.

Mission Prep outscored the Knights 17-9 in the first quarter and led 34-15 at halftime.

“Our first half was the best we have played, especially defense,” Royals coach Terrance Harris said. “It really set the tone for the rest of the game.”

Andy Rowley had nine points, and Quinton Adlesh added six for Mission Prep.

BOYS BASKETBALL

North County Christian 45, Coastal Christian 43

Jonathon Katches had 12 points and 12 rebounds, including the game-winning basket with 2.4 seconds remaining in regulation, to lead the Crusaders (7-10, 5-3 Coast Valley League) to the narrow road victory.

Daniel Katches added 11 points, 15 rebounds and five steals, and Adam Bossom chipped in nine points for North County Christian.

Coast Union 56, Valley Christian 51

Quinten Raethke led the Broncos (10-5, 6-1) to the win with 24 points, including six 3-pointers.

Angel Avina added 17 points for Coast Union.

Raethke hit the game winning 3-point field goal in the last 30 seconds to put Coast Union up 54-51 and seal the victory for the Broncos.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

North County Christian 42, Coastal Christian 28

Mandy Legault had 12 points to lead the Crusaders as North County Christian (7-10, 5-3 CVL) cruised on the road.

Aliyah Morrison had a team-high eight rebounds, and Melat Zippi added nine points and seven steals for the Crusaders.

BOYS SOCCER

Nipomo 3, Santa Maria 0

Caleb Doane, Aaron Robles and Buddy Kichler all had a goal as the Titans (8-9-3, 6-2 LPL) won on the road.

Erubey Ponce had 12 saves in goal for Nipomo.

Morro Bay 2, Templeton 1

Jackson Chavez and Colton Alden Jr. accounted for both Pirates goals as Morro Bay (6-10-1, 4-4 LPL) edged out the Eagles on the road.

GIRLS SOCCER

Nipomo 3, Santa Maria 0

Cristina Ozim, Maritruz Arvalo and Denise Delmontes scored a goal each, and the Titans (8-6-2, 4-3-1 LPL) won at home.

Ebony Quarles had one save in goal to preserve the shutout for Nipomo.

Morro Bay 5, Templeton 3

Macey Burgeson led the Pirates (3-13-1, 3-4-1 LPL) with three goals and two assists in their league win against the Eagles (3-2-2 LPL).

Tess Volkov added two goals and one assist for Morro Bay. Hannah Meisinger had 15 saves in goal for the Pirates.

Lindsey Wyatt, Kylee Davis and Annie May Bohnsack scored for Templeton.

GIRLS WATER POLO

Arroyo Grande 17, Pioneer Valley 1

Katie Sverchek, Madison Ochotorena and Brooklyn VanderVeen scored three goals each to lead the Eagles (18-2, 8-0 PAC 7).

Atascadero 10, Paso Robles 6

The Greyhounds (3-5 PAC 7) were led by Kylie Ferree, who scored four goals, and Rachel Gruetzmacher, who scored three.

Claire Leong added two goals, Erin Morey added one and Lauren Giggy and Lauryn Cooper combined for 20 saves in goal for Atascadero.

WRESTLING

Nipomo 68, Lompoc 3

Eight Titans won by pin, four won by decision and the Titans (4-0 LPL) dominated the Braves on the road.

Damian Duran (132 pounds), Damion Llamas (138), Jake Evans (152), Clayton Fowler (160), Tommy Saenz (182), Jason Costa (220), German Atilano (113) and Nick Kimball (126) won by pin for Nipomo.

Adam Chavarria (145) and Brett Kimball (285) won by major decision and Harrison Bickmore (170) and Humberto Ponce (106) won by decision.

Morro Bay 48, Cabrillo 24

The Pirates (3-1 LPL) had seven match wins, including Trajan Beecham (126 pounds) and Ket Beecham (185).

Carl Coates (heavyweight) and Andrew Unks (220) also pinned their opponents.

Other Morro Bay winners were Christian DeLeon (152), Chris Maze (170) and Dolin Mininni (145).

Pioneer Valley 58, Arroyo Grande 19

Ricardo Rodriguez (138 pounds) and Ben Ryeberg (170) won by pin for Arroyo Grande (2-3 PAC 7).
