Prep Roundup: Waddell leads San Luis Obispo to girls water polo win

Elizabeth Waddell’s game-high six goals led San Luis Obispo High (11-8, 5-2 PAC 7) to an 11-9 girls water polo victory over Atascadero on Thursday night.

Up 6-5 at halftime, San Luis Obispo scored three goals in the fourth quarter to pull away and clinch the victory.

Kacie Gin had three goals for San Luis Obispo, and Abby Hollister and Emma Tietje each added one goal.

Zoe Berkowitz had nine goalie saves for San Luis Obispo.

Arroyo Grande 13, Righetti 5

Katie Sverchek scored six goals, Alexis Elias scored three and Melanie Popovich scored two as the Eagles (17-2, 7-0 PAC 7) cruised to a road win.

Goalies Kylie Anderson and Hannah Wadlow combined for 10 saves.

BOYS SOCCER

Nipomo 1, Santa Ynez 0

The Titans’ Buddy Kichler scored the game-winning goal in the 58th minute to hand the Pirates (6-1 Los Padres League) their first league loss. The goal was assisted by Jonathan Gomez.

Goalie Erubey Ponce tallied a game-high 15 saves in the shutout for Nipomo (7-9-3, 5-2-0 LPL).

Templeton 2, Mission Prep 0

The Eagles scored early in the first half, and it was all they needed in their shutout victory over the Royals.

Mission Prep goalie Peter Bertlesen earned nine saves.

GIRLS SOCCER

Santa Ynez 2, Nipomo 0

The Pirates broke a 0-0 stalemate by scoring two goals in the final 10 minutes to defeat the Titans (7-6-2, 3-3-1 LPL).

Brianna Gonzalez was in goal for Nipomo in the first half, earning five saves, and Ebony Quarles took over the goal in the second half, also tallying five saves.
