Prep Roundup: Atascadero downs St. Joseph in girls water polo

Rachel Gruetzmacher scored five goals to lead the Atascadero High girls water polo team to its first PAC 7 victory of the season Thursday when the Greyhounds defeated St. Joseph 15-7 in Atascadero.

Mahreya Kelley added four goals, and Claire Leong netted three more for Atascadero (7-7, 1-3 PAC 7).

“It was nice to get a win after the long break,” Greyhounds coach Mitch Stafford said. “It was a good team victory.”

Lauren Giggy had eight saves in goal for Atascadero, which also received one goal apiece from Sage Kelley, Erin Morey and Emma Seitzer.

The Greyhounds take to the pool again today at the Arroyo Grande tournament.


Nipomo 5, Templeton 1

Caleb Doane had three goal and one assist as the Titans (5-8-3, 3-1 Los Padres League) defeated the Eagles on the road.

Jonathan Gomez and Mike Arevalo both scored for Nipomo, and Ben Jimenez had two assists.

Erube Ponce had eight saves in goal for the Titans.


Templeton 2, Nipomo 0

The Eagles (2-5-1, 2-0-1 LPL) scored two second-half goals, one by Lindsey Wyatt and another by Sammy Schmidt, for a league win over the Titans (6-4-2, 2-1-1 LPL).

Templeton goalkeeper Samantha Bronkar finished with six saves.

Nipomo goalkeeper Ebony Quarles stopped eight shots in the loss.

Santa Ynez 9, Morro Bay 0

Hanna Meisinger had 22 saves in goal for the Pirates (0-11-1) in the loss.
