Prep Roundup: Arroyo Grande cruises in girls PAC 7 water polo

The Arroyo Grande High girls water polo team defeated Atascadero 16-2 at home Tuesday behind Alex Elias and a dominant offensive attack.

Elias scored five goals to lead the Eagles (10-1, 3-0 PAC 7). Katie Sverchek added three for Arroyo Grande, Kelsey Docouto and Brooklyn VanderVeen scored two each and four other Arroyo Grande players scored one goal apiece.

Kylie Anderson and Hannah Wadlow combined for seven saves in goal for the Eagles.

San Luis Obispo 11, Paso Robles 2

Kacie Gin scored a team-high five goals to help San Luis Obispo down the Bearcats.

Elizabeth Waddell added four goals, while Abby Hollister and Jesse Magliari scored a goal apiece for the Tigers (2-0 PAC 7).

In goal, Elizabeth Culpepper had six saves, and Zoe Berkowitz had five saves Lauren Rodriguez and Heather McDonnell both scored for Paso Robles.


North County Christian 58, Shandon 29

Daniel Katches scored 21 points and had seven of the Crusaders 31 steals as North County Christian (4-7, 2-1) cruised past Shandon on the road in a Coast Valley League game.

Jonathon Katches had 10 rebounds and five points, and Austin Wiemann had 12 points for the Crusaders.


North County Christian 50, Shandon 21

Mandy Legault scored 14 points, Chloe Berguist grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds and the Crusaders (4-0, 3-0 CVL) defeated the Outlaws on the road to remain undefeated in league play.

Legault added four assists and four steals, and Brianna Feld added 10 points for North County Christian.

The Crusaders held Shandon to just seven points in the second half, all in the fourth quarter.

Orcutt 40, Coastal Christian 36

Toni Garrison scored a team-high 15 points, but the Conquerors fell to Orcutt Academy.

Isabelle Unger scored 10 points, and Amy Arnold scored four points and grabbed 16 rebounds for Coastal Christian (1-2, 1-1 CVL).


PAC 7 duals

Atascadero (8-0, 2-0) defeated Arroyo Grande 68-6 and San Luis Obispo 68-4 in a pair of PAC 7 league duals.

Arroyo Grande defeated San Luis Obispo 45-21 in the night’s other dual.

Brian Rozo won both of his matches for the Eagles (1-1 PAC 7).


Coast Union 4, Bishop Diego 2

Victor Casas knocked in three goals, including two in the second half, to lead Coast Union to the nonconference win in Santa Barbara.

With the score tied at 2 at halftime, the Broncos (5-1-1) pulled away thanks to Casas’ goals.

Lalo Guivar added the other score, while Diego Pena finished with three assists and Luis DeAlda had one assist.

Nipomo 2, Morro Bay 0

Buddy Kichler had one goal and one assist for Nipomo as the Titans (4-8-3, 2-1 Los Padres League) won at home.

Anthony Ojeda added one goal, and Kenny Cromer contributed one assist for Nipomo.


Nipomo 2, Morro Bay 0

Both Kaitlyne Fernandez and Denise Belmontes scored to give Nipomo (2-0-1 LPL) the league victory over the Pirates.

Nipomo’s Brianna Gonzalez had five saves in goal to shut out Morro Bay (0-10-1, 0-2-1 LPL).
