Atascadero boys basketball opens own tourney with a win

Atascadero Tournament with a big win, defeating Lompoc 64-41 in the opening round.Connor Kim had a game-high 19 points for the Greyhounds, Rob Berwick added nine points and 11 rebounds, and Hayden Mislavsky had 11. Joe Johnson added 10 points for Atascadero.

The Greyhounds were up 18-13 after one quarter and never looked back, outscoring the Braves 46-28 the rest of the way.

Atascadero is set to take on Corona Del Mar at 7:30 p.m. today in the second round.

Templeton (4-9) opened up its tournament play with a 57-41 win over Pioneer Valley behind Clark Burton and Andy Garretson.

Burton had a game-high 19 while Garretson added 17 for the Eagles. Burton was 11 of 13 from the free-throw line. Templeton will take on Montclair at 5:45 p.m. today.

Paso Robles (4-7) lost to Montclair 71-55 in its opening game. The Bearcats were down 37-17 at halftime and could never recover.

Josh Murry-Wilson had 19 points to lead Paso Robles, including nine of them from behind the 3-point line. The Bearcats will take one Pioneer Valley at 2:30 p.m. today.

BOYS BASKETBALLSan Luis Obispo at Estancia Tournament

The Tigers (5-4) lost in their opening round game 69-58 to Sunny Hills of Fullerton.

San Luis Obispo had a game-high 24 points from David Thoresen and 20 from Matt Moore. The Tigers play JSerra Catholic at 11:30 a.m. today in the next round.

GIRLS BASKETBALLMission Prep at SoCal Holiday Prep Classic

The Royals (10-1) defeated Mundelein (Mundelein, Ill.) 62-43 in their opening game of the tournament.

Kaylee Williams, Jenna Dunbar and Bri Harvey scored 15 points each to lead Mission Prep. Harvey scored 12 in the second half and also added five steals.

The Royals had 14 offensive rebounds in the game.

Mission Prep will continue pool play today against Grossmont at 3:30 p.m.

Templeton at Stockdale Tournament

The Eagles (9-2) opened up the tournament with a 62-54 win over Delano. Mari Stewart had a game-high 19 points and 23 rebounds to go with five steals for Templeton, while Autumn Russell added 13 and Marissa Torres added 11 points and 10 rebounds for the Eagles.

Templeton continues its tournament run today against Burrows at 10:50 a.m. and Stockdale at 4:30 p.m.

Atascadero, Paso Robles at Righetti Tournament

The Greyhounds (6-4) defeated Santa Maria 82-27 in their opening game of the Righetti Tournament in Santa Maria.Mary Kate Evans had 24 points and 10 rebounds to lead Atascadero, which also got 18 from Emily Boege and 15 from Camille LeBlanc.

In their second game, the Greyhounds defeated Pioneer Valley 59-46 behind Evans and her second-straight 24-point game. Evans also had 12 rebounds.

Boege added 13 points and 10 rebounds for Atascadero, which will play Santa Barbara at 2:30 p.m. today.The Bearcats (6-5) defeated El Camino in their first game, 40-34.

Katie Knupper had 10 points and 20 rebounds and Molly Donovan had 20 points for Paso Robles, which overcame 32 turnovers with a 9-2 run in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.

In their second game, the Bearcats fell to host-team Righetti 52-36. Molly Donovan led Paso Robles with 17 points.The Bearcats play Lompoc at 4 p.m. today.

GIRLS SOCCERSanta Maria Tournament

Atascadero (8-2) opened up the day with a big 7-1 win over host Santa Maria. Six different Greyhounds scored in the game.

In their next matchup, Atascadero fell 1-0 to Centennial of Bakersfield.

The Greyhounds will move to pool play in the silver group today against a team to be announced.
