Coast Union High swept Cuyama Valley in a girls volleyball match 25-9, 25-15, 25-11 on Monday night to remain undefeated in Coast Valley League play.
Katelyn Lorenz had five aces and five kills for the Broncos (11-4, 9-0 CVL).
Sophie Flemion had 22 assists, two blocks and four kills for Coast Union, while Roxy Mertens added five aces and four kills and Nicky Ortiz had five aces and three kills.
Cal Poly women's golf at Santa Clara tournament
Cal Poly’s Laura Howard and Morgan Thomas both shot 8-over 80s, five strokes off the lead, for a sixth-place tie in the opening round of the Santa Clara Colby Invitational at Silver Creek.
The Mustangs are third in the team standings at 44-over, 28 strokes back of the host Broncos. The final round will be this morning.
Atascadero High to induct eight into Hall of Fame
The Atascadero High Greyhound Athletic Foundation will induct six former athletes, a former coach and a longtime supporter into its Hall of Fame on Nov. 5 at Spanish Oaks Ranch.
The event will begin at 5 p.m. with a social hour, followed by dinner at 6 and inductions at 7. Tickets are $40 each. For more information, call 712-6356.
This year’s inductees are athletes Mark Anderson (class of 1965), René Brill (1989), Joe Davis (1989), Brad Haskell (1985), Joe McKusick (1940) and Gary Mattice (1976), as well as coach Guido Lombardi and supporter Jerry Clay.
Anderson went on to run cross country at Cuesta College, where he was the Cougars’ Athlete of the Year. He came back to coach track for the Greyhounds from 1970 through 2004.
Brill became a two-year starter in volleyball at USC. Davis went on to play two years of baseball at Cal State Bakersfield.
Haskell was an all-conference honoree at Allan Hancock College in football before starting two years at defensive back for New Mexico State.
Mattice, a baseball star, signed with the Philadelphia Phillies organization coming out of high school. Lombardi coached three undefeated football teams, three undefeated basketball teams and five undefeated volleyball teams.
Clay coached youth sports for 37 years and was an assistant baseball coach at Atascadero High for 13 years before helping to found youth basketball and baseball programs.
McKusick played a year of football at Cal Poly before joining the National Guard.
SLO High grad Hall in 30th in college golf tournament
San Luis Obispo High grad Jayme Hall, now a junior golfer at Pacific in Oregon, placed 30th this past weekend at the Northwest Conference Fall Invitational at Heron Lakes, shooting a 45-over 189 total for the tournament.

Former Cal Poly star Barden returns to practice with New York Giants
Ramses Barden, a former Cal Poly star who spent the first seven weeks of the season on the physcially unable to perform list, joined his fellow receivers at the New York Giants’ practice for the first time in almost a full year. He’s still on PUP and the Giants have three weeks to activate him or put him on season-ending injured reserve.
