Morro Bay (0-5, 0-1) fell into an early 17-point deficit in the first quarter and could not recover against Santa Ynez (3-2, 1-1) in its Los Padres League opener.
Morro Bay relied heavily on its rushing game, running the ball 45 times for 229 yards. Quarterback Bryce Owens completed just 3 of 10 passes for 15 yards.
Jordan Bray had a pair of 1-yard rushing touchdowns for Morro Bay, and Tristan Collins added another with a 6-yard run.
“We came out and gave them 17 quick points. We had a couple of turnovers and they converted them into 10 points early on. But our kids held on and made it a close game in the end,” Morro Bay coach John Andree said.
