Prep Roundup: San Luis Obispo takes control in PAC 7 girls volleyball

Elizabeth Culpepper had 18 kills, Jessica Chellsen had 17 kills, and the San Luis Obispo High girls volleyball team defeated Arroyo Grande 3-1 on Tuesday night to remain undefeated in PAC 7 play.

The Tigers dropped just the second set to the Eagles, winning 25-16, 23-25, 25-18, 25-22 against their league rivals.

Maggie Eppright had 46 assists to go with her seven aces for San Luis Obispo, and Linnea Ramirez had 31 digs for the Tigers (13-2, 3-0).

For Arroyo Grande (12-3, 3-1), Alyssa Koenig led with 10 kills, Kendall VandenBerg had seven kills, and Millisa Morrow had 33 assists plus five aces.

Atascadero 3, St. Joseph 0

The Greyhounds (9-5, 2-2 PAC 7) swept the Knights 25-19, 25-23, 25-17 behind the efforts of Brittany Davis, Mary Kate Evans and Hannah McMillan.

Davis tallied 15 kills, Evans had seven kills and five aces, and McMillan had five kills.

Nipomo 3, Santa Maria 0

The Titans swept the Saints 25-11, 25-13, 25-14 for their first Los Padres League win of the season.

Stephanie Persky had 11 kills and Taylor Nevitt added seven kills in the win.

Sarah Stahl had eight digs for Nipomo (6-9, 1-2).

Templeton 3, Cabrillo 2

The Eagles rebounded from a 2-1 deficit to win 23-25, 25-17, 19-25, 25-15, 17-15.

Jeanine Madson boasted 13 kills and 18 digs, Sarah Kretzu had 11 kills and nine aces, and Autumn Russell had nine kills and three aces for Templeton (7-1, 4-0).

Morro Bay 3, Mission Prep 1

Carli Watt led all players with nine kills in the Pirates’ 25-11, 25-22, 19-25, 26-24 victory over the Royals.

Kylie Gacad added 25 assists and nine digs, and Monica Santiago had 29 digs and six aces for Morro Bay (3-6, 2-1).

For Mission Prep (6-3), Sadie Casacca had 13 kills and six digs, Natalie Brescia had 32 digs, and Maggie Boneso had 27 digs.

Coast Union 3, Maricopa 0

Sophie Flemion had six kills and six aces as the Broncos won 25-12, 25-15, 25-11.

Karla Soto also had nine kills, and Nicky Ortiz had six kills for Coast Union (3-4, 2-0 Coast Valley League).

Valley Christian 3, North County Christian 1

The Crusaders took the first game against the Warriors 25-16, but then fell 25-12, 25-23, 25-10.

Cheyenne Ricks led the Crusaders with eight aces and 11 assists, and Brianna Feld had six kills and five digs for North County Christian (1-6, 0-3 CVL).

Coastal Christian 3, Dunn 1

The Conquerors defeated the Earwigs 25-16, 25-14, 22-25, 25-9 to remain undefeated on the season.

Leslie Henry led the effort with 19 kills, while Koral Wright had 39 digs. JoAnn Lindstaedt also had 33 assists, and Roni Garrison tallied five aces for Coastal Christian (4-0).

Shandon 3, Cuyama Valley 0

Kayla Celis had nine kills, two aces and 13 digs as the Outlaws swept the Bears 25-11, 25-11, 25-10.

For Shandon (5-2, 3-0 CVL), Dontavia Henderson had 17 kills and two aces, and Carina Ramirez had five aces and five digs.


San Luis Obispo 9, Paso Robles 5

Behind Casey Blauer, the Tigers (6-4, 2-0 PAC 7) gained an early 4-1 advantage after the first quarter and never lost their lead.

Blauer led all scorers with four goals, and Ian Anderson and Trevor Meinhold each added two goals, while goalie Darren Paul earned four saves.

“We were up early in the first quarter and we just kind of maintained that lead for the rest of the game. A lot of it was because Casey did a really good job scoring early, which build a lot of momentum for us,” Tigers coach Aaron Sue said.

Arroyo Grande 14, Atascadero 4

The Eagles (4-4, 2-1 PAC 7) defeated the Greyhounds as Cisco Bass and Taylor Ross had four and three goals, respectively.

Arroyo Grande goalie Clint Doucette recorded seven saves.


St. Joseph 13, Atascadero 5

Rhi Dudley and Amber Petersen swept in doubles, 6-2, 6-1, 6-2, but the Greyhounds (4-3, 1-3 PAC 7) fell to the Warriors.

The doubles team Claire Jacobs and Kelly Boicourt also won 6-2, and Mallory Miller won in singles, 6-2.

Nipomo 10, Templeton 8

In a closely contested match between the Titans (2-4, 2-1 LPL) and the Eagles, Templeton’s Lauren Kueffler lifted her team to victory with a sweep in singles, 6-4, 6-0, 6-0.

The Titans’ Kelly Barrett went 2-1 in her singles matches with set scores of 6-2, 6-2, 2-6.

In doubles, Ann Wardlaw and Gianna Abatti won two sets, 6-1, 6-3, 2-6, and Kelly Springford and Mady Slaven won two, 6-2, 6-1, 5-7.


St. Joseph 221, Atascadero 256

The Knights’ Marissa Gutierrez shot even-par (37) at the Santa Maria Country Club.

Marissa McClain and Danyele Rampone led the Greyhounds with scores of 47 and 48, respectively.
