Prep Roundup: San Luis Obispo has boys, girls winners at cross country meet

The San Luis Obispo High cross country team had a dominant showing Saturday, taking home first in both the boys and girls individual races on the 3.1-mile course in the Ojai Invitational.

The Tigers’ Christine Hoffman finished first in the girls race in 18 minutes, 31 seconds, a school record on the course. For the boys, Seamus Land won in 15:33.

Jillian McLeniphan (20:38) had the best time for the Atascadero girls, and Nick Landy was tops for the Greyhound boys with a 16:59.

Rachel Jelstrom of Morro Bay finished 14th in the girls race with a time of 20:31. Billy Vedrin was the fastest Pirates boys runner at 17:36.

No team scores were recorded.


Nipomo At Los Altos Conqueror Classic

The Titans (7-2) placed fourth in Los Altos, falling to Pomona Poly in the third-place game 13-6.

Nipomo was 3-2 in the tournament.

The Titans opened Saturday in exciting fashion when Derek Seaman scored the winning goal in a 12-11 sudden-death overtime victory against Glendale, putting Nipomo in the third-place match against Pomona Poly. Marc Baker had six goals, and Seaman finished with three in the game for the Titans.

In the third-place game loss, Baker had three goals, Cole Holloway had two, and Brennan Bryant had one. Kirk Wilenius had 14 saves in goal for Nipomo.


Coast Union Invitational

Templeton fell in the championship match to St. Joseph 25-21. Morro Bay defeated Mission Prep 25-23 in the consolation final.

St. Joseph’s Shannon Swain and Templeton’s Sydney Roth shared tournament MVP honors. Mission Prep’s Grace Ready also made the all-tournament team.

David Lowe Tournament

Coastal Christian won the tournament in Santa Barbara, defeating Valley Christian 25-4 in the championship.

North County Christian tied for third with Maricopa. Coastal Christian defeated North County Christian 25-15 in the semifinals.

North County Christian defeated Cuyama 25-15 in its match prior to the meeting with the Conquerors.

Briana Feld was named to the all-tournament team for the Crusaders.


North County Christian 23, Faith Christian 22

An 8-yard touchdown pass from Keelan Willison to Adam Bosson gave the Crusaders (2-0) a late, one-point victory.

Daniel Katches had two touchdown catches for North County Christian, one on a 20-yard toss from Carter Bernal and another on a 41-yard pass from Willison.

Curtis Sarnecki had three sacks for the Crusaders.
