Prep Roundup: San Luis Obispo sweeps Atascadero in girls volleyball

The San Luis Obispo High girls volleyball team swept Atascadero in both team’s PAC 7 opener Thursday evening, winning 25-15, 25-17, 25-13.

San Luis Obispo’s Linnea Ramirez had a game-high 15 digs, while teammate Elizabeth Culpepper had 12 kills.

Maggie Eppright had 27 assists in the winning effort for the Tigers (9-2, 1-0).

For Atascadero (7-4, 0-1), Brittany Davis posted eight kills, Mary Kate Evans had six kills and Haley Ogden had 20 assists.

Arroyo Grande 3, Righetti 0

The Eagles combined for 18 aces as they downed the Warriors 25-12, 25-9, 25-10 in their PAC 7 opener.

Millisa Morrow led Arroyo Grande with 10 aces, while Madison Jacobs had four.

Alyssa Koenig posted a team-high 11 kills, and Danielle Mullery had six kills for the Eagles (10-2).

Savanna Welch also had 18 digs in the win.

Paso Robles 3, Pioneer Valley 0

The Bearcats (8-3, 1-0 PAC 7) swept the Panthers 25-7, 25-7, 25-18 in a dominant opening to league play.

Molly Donovan had 11 kills, Christine Buckley had six, and Kellie Reynolds had 25 assists as Paso Robles cruised.

Templeton 3, Morro Bay 1

Templeton’s Jeanine Madson and Heather Fields both had 14 kills as the Eagles won 25-17, 25-21, 15-25, 25-18.

Sydney Roth had 37 assists and 14 digs in the win.

For Morro Bay (0-5, 0-1 Los Padres League), Monica Santiago posted 25 digs, Tia Gacad had 12 kills and nine digs, and Kylie Gacad had 30 assists and 12 digs.

Avenal 3, North County Christian 0

The Buccaneers swept the Crusaders 25-13, 25-21, 25-17.

North County Christian’s Brianna Feld posted a team-high five aces and four kills.

Cheyenne Ricks also had four assists, and Ricks and Kylie Bergquist had five digs for the Crusaders (0-1).

Mission Prep 3, Shandon 0

The Royals (5-1) swept the Outlaws 25-22, 25-14, 25-8.

Shandon’s Dontavia Henderson had seven kills and 10 digs. Kayla Celis also had seven kills and four aces.

Mission Prep’s Sadie Casacca had nine kills, 13 digs and six aces. Jessa Culver had 20 digs.


Arroyo Grande 18, Righetti 0

Alex Mero swept at No. 3 singles as the Eagles shut out the Warriors.

It was a collective effort from Arroyo Grande (3-0, 1-0 PAC 7), which played all of its subs in the win.

Christa Osumi won 6-4 in doubles, and Elizabeth Mero and Zoe Miller won 6-0 in doubles.

Paso Robles 11, Pioneer Valley 7

Bearcats duo Riley Caruana and Amanda Keller swept 6-3, 6-3, 6-0 to remain undefeated this season. They’re now 12-0 in doubles.

Maria Petiy also went 3-6, 6-0, 6-0 in singles to help the Bearcats improve to 3-0 (1-0 PAC 7).

San Luis Obispo 12, Atascadero 6

The Tigers’ singles and doubles excelled against the Greyhounds.

India Hoffman won two out of three in singles, 0-6, 6-2, 6-1. Darla Berkefeld and Lauren Hetkin won 6-2, 6-0, 6-2 for San Luis Obispo (1-0).

In doubles, Tori Troesch and Joelle Lewis also won all three, 6-0, 6-0, 6-1.

Santa Ynez 13, Nipomo 5

The Titans (0-4, 0-1 LPL) fell short today against the Pirates, although singles player Lauren Kueffler won 6-4, 7-5, 6-0.


San Luis Obispo 8, Cabrillo 7

In erasing a 3-0 first-period deficit, the Tigers (4-4) got three goals from Casey Blauer, two by Tyler LeSage, and goalkeeper Darren Paul blocked seven shots.

San Luis Obispo cut the Conquistadores’ lead to 4-3 at the half and went ahead for good with a 3-1 third-quarter advantage.

“We had the opportunities in the first quarter,” Tigers coach Aaron Sue said. “We just started executing a little better in the second quarter, which gave us some more good opportunities.”

Ian Anderson, Trevor Meinhold and Nick Eaton scored one goal apiece for San Luis Obispo.

Atascadero 15, Morro Bay 11

The Greyhounds scored four goals in the final quarter to down the Pirates.

Chad Ponek led the effort the Greyhounds (3-5) with 10 goals, while Will Mahring had three goals and Chris Cunningham had two.

For Morro Bay (0-4), Grant Johnson and D.J. Marcy both scored a team-high three goals, while Anders Johnson had two.

Juan Olabe Armendariz also had five saves in the loss.


PAC 7 Tournament

Arroyo Grande (248) finished second, Atascadero (250) was third, San Luis Obispo (251) placed fourth, and Paso Robles (260) finished fifth on the par-35 front nine at Dairy Creek Golf Course.

The Eagles’ Breana Garcia led her team with a personal-best 45, and Anna Zhang shot a 47.

Nora Zakaria was the low-scoring Tiger with a 41, and Danyele Rampone led the Greyhounds with a 46. For the Bearcats, Ashley Levanduski and Claire Baldal both shot 46s.

St. Joseph (216) captured the team title.

Morro Bay 218, Cabrillo 225; Santa Ynez 235, Nipomo 241; Santa Maria 317, Lompoc 326

The Pirates won their home tournament at par-35 Morro Bay Golf Course. Cabrillo’s Morgan Salm was the medalist by shooting even par.

“This was one of our best games, and we’re very excited,” Morro Bay coach Roger Pelletier said.

Morro Bay’s Jennifer Baltimore (38), Gina Wongwatcharanon (42) and Allison Kirby (47) all shot personal bests.

Templeton freshman Jacob Gray won the boys 5K individual race Wednesday in 17 minutes, 58 seconds.
