Louie Carlos made his first start a good one Wednesday afternoon, leading the San Luis Obispo High baseball team to a 6-1 PAC 7 win over Righetti.
Carlos had nine strikeouts and four walks while giving up seven hits and was also 1 for 3 with a run scored for the Tigers (10-10, 7-4), who have a two-game lead over St. Joseph for third place in the league standings.
Nick Niles (2 for 2 with an RBI), Davis Casciola (2 for 3), Sean Mullen (2 for 4) and Max Sensenbach (2 for 4 with an RBI) also had strong days offensively for San Luis Obispo.
Atascadero baseball team falls to Pioneer Valley
Atascadero High was held to three hits in a 5-3 PAC 7 baseball loss to Pioneer Valley.
Logan Sprouse had a two-run double for the Greyhounds, and Bryce Evans drove in the other run with a sacrifice fly. Mitchell Angeloni and Tanner Thompson added 1-for-3 performances for Atascadero (10-10, 4-7).
Weston Walker had five strikeouts and didn’t walk any batters in the loss.
Templeton star signs rowing letter
Templeton High senior Katie Koehler signed a national letter of intent to compete in rowing at Sacramento State, the school announced.
Her commitment to the Hornets, from whom she accepted a partial scholarship, was previously reported in The Tribune.
Koehler, who has had a standout career for the Eagles in basketball, volleyball and softball, also has experience as a lifeguard and a background in swimming.
Sacramento State competes in the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships.
