Tigers down Greyhounds in boys soccer

The San Luis Obispo High boys soccer team defeated Atascadero 2-0 on Monday evening in a PAC 7 game.

Justin Vogel scored first for the Tigers on an assist from Jesus Vazquez, and Julio Martinon tacked on the second score on a free kick.

Michael Lambert earned the shutout in goal for San Luis Obispo (6-7, 1-1 PAC 7).

Mission Prep 2, Hueneme 1

The Mission Prep girls soccer team defeated Hueneme 2-1, as Deirdre Laird scored twice unassisted to lead the Royals.

In goal, Helena Hurwitz made three saves for Mission Prep (7-6-1).

Cuesta Athlete of the Month (male)

Cuesta College wrestler Sean Dougherty has been named the school’s male Athlete of the Month for January.

Dougherty, a freshman from Walnut Creek who will wrestle at Cal Poly next year, according to a Cuesta news release, ended the season as a community college All-American after finishing third at the state championships.

An all-Western State Conference first-team selection, Dougherty (26-4) lost during the regular season only to two fifth-year seniors at the Cal State Fullerton Open.

Cuesta Athlete of the Month (female)

Cuesta College basketball star Jayme Salim has been named the school’s female Athlete of the Month for January.

Salim, a sophomore guard from Delano, is averaging 14.8 points, 4.4 rebounds and 2.8 steals per game.
