The Morro Bay High girls basketball team opened its season with a 57-38 nonleague home win over Paso Robles on Monday night.
The Pirates got a game-best 26 points from senior point guard Megan Hansen, and 22 from sophomore post player Hannah Gilbert.
Hansen, a third-year varsity starter and back-to-back all-Los Padres League first-team honoree, hit four 3-pointers, was 8 for 8 at the free-throw line and added three assists.
The 6-foot-2 Gilbert also sank all eight of her shots from the foul line and grabbed seven rebounds.

“They had a nice inside-outside game going,” Morro Bay coach Cary Nerelli said of Gilbert and Hansen. “I think as the season progresses, we’ll get more contributions from other players as roles become more defined and coverage intensifies on Megan and Hannah.
“For our first game coming out of the gate, I thought we played well in spurts, especially defensively,” Nerelli added.
For the Bearcats, Chelsea Kuhns had a team-best 12 points, knocking down a trio of 3-pointers, while Audra Perry added seven points and Molly Donovan six.
Morro Bay outscored Paso Robles 13-6 in the second quarter and 15-6 in the fourth.
The Pirates were 18-8 overall last year, with a second-place finish in the LPL.
