Crusaders to start football playoffs at home

North County Christian will host a CIF-Southern Section Division 2 eight-man football playoff game Friday, according to playoff pairings released Monday.

The Crusaders earned an at-large bid after going 8-1 this past season and finishing second in the Coast Valley League. They face Lighthouse Christian (4-3), an at-large selection from the Coastal League, at 7:30 p.m. The Saints finished second in that league.

Shandon (4-4), also an at-large selection from the CVL, travels Friday to Desert Christian Academy (7-2), an at-large qualifier from the Victory League and the division’s No. 2 seed.


PAC 7 champion Arroyo Grande earned a home match to open the CIF-Southern Section Division 3 playoffs Thursday at 2 p.m., facing the winner of today’s wild card match between Lakewood and Pacifica.

San Luis Obispo, second in the PAC 7, travels to Oxnard to take on the Pacific View League’s second-place team Thursday.

Atascadero, which finished fourth in the PAC 7, has a road wild card match at St. Bonaventure, the third-place team from the Tri-Valley League, today at 2 p.m. The winner advances to play the division’s No. 1 seed West Ranch, champion of the Foothill League.

In Division 4, Los Padres League third-place finisher Templeton plays at Palmdale, the runner-up of the Golden League, today at 2 p.m. The winner advances to play Liberty League champion Buckley, the division’s No. 1 seed.

The Titans’ turnaround season came to an end in the Division 3AA wild-card round in a 25-19, 25-13, 25-14 loss.

“Our goal was to make (the playoffs) and we did,” Nipomo coach Erin Alves said.

The Titans finished 17-14 overall, a 15-win improvement from 2009.
