Prep Roundup: Nipomo wins two boys water polo games at tourney

The Nipomo High boys water polo team won both games in the Santa Maria Tournament on Friday afternoon.

In its first matchup, Nipomo defeated Santa Maria 18-4. Marc Baker led the Titans (14-4) with five goals, Cole Holoway tallied four goals and Brennan Bryant had two goals.

Kirk Wilenius nabbed nine saves in the win.

In its second matchup, Nipomo topped Morro Bay 13-6. Holloway led Nipomo with four goals, and Baker had three. For Morro Bay, Tyler Fraser had three goals.

Nik Benko scored a little over a minute into overtime to give Morro Bay a 6-5 sudden-death victory over tournament host Santa Maria.

Fraser and Grant Johnson led the Pirates (2-15, 0-3) with two goals apiece to help them revenge a 7-5 Los Padres League loss to the Saints earlier in the year.

Mac Reinhart added seven saves for Morro Bay, who gave up a 5-3 lead in the waning seconds of the fourth quarter before Benko put away the game winner.

Mission Prep girls tennis team falls

The Mission Prep (0-10) girls tennis team was swept by Immanuel 18-0 at home.
