Prep Roundup: Morro Bay girls dominate LPL cross country duals

The Morro Bay High girls cross country team went 6-0 at the Los Padres League midseason all-schools meet on Wednesday at the 3-mile River Park course in Lompoc.

The Pirates defeated Cabrillo 23-36, Lompoc 17-46, Nipomo 19-44, Santa Ynez 22-35, Templeton 22-39 and Santa Maria 15-50.

Morro Bay’s Rachael Jelstrom won individually with a time of 19 minutes, 39 seconds over the 5,000-meter course. Teammate Macey Burgeson was sixth at 20:22, and Ashley Fisher and Lizzy Hoyt tied for ninth at 20:39.

On the boys side, Morro Bay went 4-2, topping Cabrillo 15-50, Lompoc 24-31, Nipomo 23-35, Templeton 22-37 and Santa Maria 18-38.

Bryan Carroll had the top individual time for the Pirates boys squad at a ninth-place 16:28.


Arroyo Grande 3, Mission Prep 0

Madi Ventura made 22 digs in the nonleague 25-18, 25-21, 25-18 win for the Eagles (10-3), while Maggi Jo Keffury distributed 29 assists.

Nicole Leger and Kendall Vandenberg each had seven kills for Arroyo Grande.

For the Royals (6-3), Andrea Fernandez had 13 digs and eight kills, while Sadie Casacca had nine digs and eight kills.


Righetti 18, Paso Robles 10

Austin McCall scored seven goals for the Bearcats (8-12, 3-3 PAC 7), who fell to the third-ranked team in this week’s CIF-Southern Section Division 4 poll.

Nipomo 15, Lompoc 2

Marc Baker led the Titans (11-4, 3-0 LPL) with four goals, while Cole Holloway and J.W. Dobbe each added three.

Kirk Wilenius made five saves for Nipomo, and Luke Buchanan had three.

Cabrillo 14, Morro Bay 2

Tyler Fraser and Nik Benko each scored for the Pirates.

Mac Reinhart made seven saves for Morro Bay (0-3 LPL).


Atascadero 240, Pioneer Valley 262

The Greyhounds’ Marissa McClain earned medalist honors by shooting a 44 for nine holes at par-36 Blacklake Golf Course. Danyele Rampone carded a 46, while Corie Bruno shot a 47 for Atascadero.
